    For Sale 1991 FJ80 295k needs TLC

Yea man, the radiator is the really the only reason I am shying away from this. I mean, if the radiator was fixed and the head gasket is solid, and I knew it would pass smog I'd come up from LA and drive it home!

    For Sale 91 FJ80 $2500 S. Oregon

Hey Bri, you have any shots of it off the rack? What more would you do to it to make it a solid daily? I'm on the hunt for an LC right now since my IS300 just blew up and I have a bunch of location jobs coming up.

    Mechanic Referral

Hey Gang, I'm looking at an 87 22re 4x4 pick-up to purchase in the next week or so. It has a SAS. The owner says all it needs is brakes and front wheel bearings to be road ready. Any recommends on a mechanic in the area that could do the work so I can drive home? Or even if they can come and...

    Daily Vs Trail question

This is the type of info i was wondering about. I wasn't tripping on the MPG's, but never having an off-road rig of this size before, I wanted a general feeler for all things "not fun" related so I could get a grasp on how to allocate my budget as an owner.

    Daily Vs Trail question

Maybe you're right Baldilocks, it would be great if I could just not have to worry about money ever, but since a lot of my work requires me fronting costs before I invoice budget is still a concern for me. Thanks for the insight IH8MUD team, real world anecdotes are pure gold!

    Daily Vs Trail question

Great insight so far guys, Thanks, the time is appreciated. I understand the cost to own these can be high, but certainly no where near as bad as my old allroad. With that said, the longevity and robustness associated with the FJ80 motors is enticing, even tho the daily driving costs may get...

    Daily Vs Trail question

Hey 80 series gang! I'm about to get into my second 4wd rig in the next few months. My other 4x4 was a 1st Gen 4runner that i found in Glendale. (Amazing rig) I daily drove the 1st Gen, and since it was the 22re on 33s it was pretty easy to get around in. My question for the IH8 Mud team is-...

Obituary and 3FE Oil Galley Plug

I had a freeze plug pop out on my old Honda Prelude in Highschool. This was such a rare occurrence being A) It was Hawaii, and 2) no mechanic had ever seen this ever happen. Even the most senior tech at the time (a 30 year Honda certified mechanic from Japan) had no idea that there was even a...

    Should I buy?

I totally get where you are coming from, and on one level you're right, but the fact that someone has taken the time to sign up on a forum and is seeking out advice from a group of enthusiasts shows some serious interest. I don't have an 80 yet, but I am digging deep and looking into all...

    Should I buy?

I am looking to get an 80 series as well, but as far as lower cost to maintain than a 1st gen Hilux 4x4, no. You are talking about 10 years of extra tech, 2 extra cylinders as well as electronics and a complex (yet rugged) 4-wheel system. Sure the costs will not be that much higher but they will...
