Thanks Tom
Completely sorted now.
On a different note, I visited NZ for the first time in September for RWC. Awesome place with great people
Thanks again
Justin
I appreciate that I have been quiet a long time on this issue, but there was a mistake in my earlier post!
I have a single 3 way valve on my 2f whereas the photo of the red cruiser shows two valves.
If anybody could give me a clue regarding how to lace up the hoses from this valve I would be...
Thanks for the replies.
I put the gasket on clean and dry (though I would have gone with the aluminium paint if I had some handy).
I cleaned up one thread with a thread file but the rest of the bolts could be tightened by hand.
two questions that will help me on my way:
1. Should the head bolts be dry or lubed?
2. Does the head gasket need a sealer or should it be installed dry?
Its an 82 if that helps!
thanks
I have removed rocker assembly, pushrods, head bolts, nuts between exhaust and manifold, and a few other bits and pieces.
I plan to lift the head tonight and thought that I would put the plugs back in and crank the motor to break the seal between the block / gasket / head using compression. Is...
Sound like a night at the Blue Oyster Bar ................ but moving on ...
I have an Aussie FJ40LX (1982) that I have just carried out a compression test and found that 1,2,4 and 6 cylinders are between 125 - 135, but 3 and 4 are 105 and 115 respectively (hot and dry). A wet test has...
Struggling to reliably start my FJ40 2F
Seems great when it is running, and will hot start with 2 prods of the throttle and no choke.
I have a new starter and battery, new condenser and points.
The motor is a bit down on compression on 3 and 4 (85 psi).
With some ether spray, it starts...
Starter seems to be spinning pretty hard - certainly enough to start the motor.
The vehicle has been laid up for a while so there is every reason that the SM would be a bit tired or drawing too much power from the battery.
The voltage drop across the battery terminals seems a logical way to...
It's not electronic ignition - that's for sure.
I was hoping for some feedback in terms of voltage drop across the battery terminals on start up (I.e. What is a reasonable reading, and what is too high a voltage drop to reasonably expect the beast to start)
If anybody wants to put a voltmeter...
My 82 fj40 has just been decommissioned after a long lay off.
I'm having some problems getting it started.
It starts with jumper leads and a rolling jump start very easily, but despite having a good battery it does not strait from the key.
Looks like weak spark - have been through the wiring...
That fibreglass piece looks to be the complete gutter with a moulding to duplicate the separate piece that fixes between the screen and the roof section. The dome would be required to be separately attached.
Benefits:
1. Very easy installation, and generally dimensionally accurate.
2. No...
Hey Guys
I' having to replace the gutter on my hard top to pass a Roadworthy inspection in Oz.
I've noticed that the metal plate that is connected to the top by rivets and screen surround by bolts is looking a bit 'second hand' to say the least.
I've seen that I can replace the gutter with a...
Thanks guys for your assistance.
Pinhead - it was the primary that was stuck a little open. I've adjusted it down to about 750rpm, but will probably go for a new throttle return spring because the linkage feels a little tight and does not fully return to the stop without encouragement.
As for...
Hi guys
Just put my 82 FJ40 back together after a long lay off.
Background:
I have a new exhaust system which is linked to a standard inlet and exhaust manifold which has a blanking plate between the two manifolds (Aussie spec). The manifolds were shaved and I believe that I have no leaks at the...
Great help guys
Psycho - of course there are 2 vsv's in the photo - I must look a bit harder next time!
And bsmith, yes the canister is like the large one that appears in your picture. The only issue being that I had no idea that there were any smog equipment on Aussie vehicles - certainly the...
thanks for taking the trouble to post a photo Psycho
My FJ is a little different to yours, but your picture was a valuable reference.
I have two separate valves (3 way vacuum switch thing), whereas your setup shows just one.
Also I have a reservoir which is about the size of a baked beans tin...
G'day folks
I have at last put my motor back together and have come to lace up the vacuum hoses to the aisin carb, but unfortunately I have lost my little sketch showing what went where!
Anyway, I have a valve which is attached to the inside of the fender with some pipes coming out of it...
