Any harm in switching to synthetic?

One caveat - it may start leaking oil in places that didn't prior to switiching. Found out the hatd way.

    HEI problem

If the engine starts firing again after you pull the choke out, it is a sign you are not getting fuel. Since you said there was fuel in carb, my guess is there is dirt in the main jet or fuel bowl and it's periodically restricting your fuel flow. Just my 2 cents.

    That four letter word...

I agree with everyone who says do not drive it in the winter. I live in Toledo, Ohio, and purchased an FJ40 from a guy out in Arizona. Growing up here, I was amazed at the small amount of rust on this 67. As soon as we get a dusting of snow here, the salt trucks come out in droves and there are...

too much spare time I think....

Great answers to all my questions Barpzio. I've already read Maximum Boost as you suggested. My biggest question was really the twin turbo setup versus a single turbo. Although you are correct about each turbo being exposed to half as much heat as a single unit, it is also only getting half as...

too much spare time I think....

Great project!! Question: what is the advantage of twin turbos over a single turbo -quicker spoolup? Or is it because the engine capacity is relatively large? What cpmpression ratio are you running? Did you have to add any additional capacity to the engine cooling system? Does your engine...

    Need frame help...

Look in the IH8MUD classifieds section - there is a guy in Columbus, Ohio giving away a frame and all you have to do is pick it up. He say's it needs some welding, but I can't imagine it looks as bad as the one in your pic.

    Paint Bubbling Question

Lowtideride - thanks for the hospitality!! Me and the wide and kids should be able to get down there by Sunday. We can only stay for a couple of months, during my layoff, but again, it's appreciated. Wife wants to know if you have cable?

Engine won't run smoothly at 2000rpm

My vote is a carburation problem. Sounds like you ae running lean. That could be caused by a faulty carb or possibly a vacuum leak, and I'll bet it runs better with the choke partially closed.

    Paint Bubbling Question

I'd take the Southern salt air any day over the salt trucks and frigid air up here. I'm near Detroit, in Toledo, and I could live with the salty air and warm temps anytime!!

    door dent

Why don't you try the old "pull it out with a toilet plunger" trick. You have absolutely nothing to lose. Wet the door first the plunge away!! It might pop right out.

    78 / 66 Cruiser ?

AR, i have a 67 that had the swap already done when i got it. I've since picked up late model front and rear ends complete and I'm swapping the early stuff out for the better front disc brakes and fine splined stuff. My cross member was deleted when they made the swap. From what I see, you...

    fj40 front bumper

I'd just like to say that if anyone else is contemplating buying anything from John W., have no fears. He had the bumper enroute before he even requested payment for it!!. Thanks again John, I may have a few beers myself.

    Tubs... to rebuild or Buy

Regarding tubs - I was hesitant to go to all the work of removing my tub and cowl, thinking I would just restore everything without going to all that trouble. Finally bit the bullet this afternoon and it took me all of 3 hours completely by myself, so if anyone is afraid it's too much work, it...

    TRE removal, help!

The hammer trick works. I've used it for 25 years on everything from MG's to Porsches to Dodge trucks and on the FJ40. Works best if you have access to two sides and put big hammer on one side and whack away on the other side, but will also work if you can just hit it straight on. All you are...

    brake cylinder grease nipple?

;) Well, if you apply plenty of grease to each of those nipples, you will always have a firm pedal.

    Rear body channel...

The previous owner of my 67 used a length of 2x4 rectangular tubing and welded it in place. can't be told from stock and the strength increase is impressive.

    The most stubborn Pitman Arm!

It is hard to get good access with the hammers, but, take 2 decent sized hammers to it, wacking it simultaneously on two opposite sides. This breaks the taper and allows it to fall out. Works every time for me.
