    Power seat switch

The driver seat switch that lowers the back part of the seat (not to be confused with the seat-back) is not working. Before I start trying to pry things apart, thought I'd ask for help. How do I get access to those switches? It looks like the seat might have to come out. Thanks, Ed

    Something else to worry about?

Just completed a 2800 mile trip - most of it in rain. To take my mind off the possibility of the dreaded oil galley plug failure, I found something else to worry about. The windshield wiper motor. Would not have wanted that to go out. Has anyone had theirs fail? Or are they indestructable...

    Landcruiser - made in China

An article in today's Wall Street Journal mentioned that Toyota started making Landcruisers in China this fall. They are only being sold in China. Wonder if there are any implications for the LC's future. Ed

    Black and locked?

Since black is rare even on '96's and lockers are (sorta) rare, who has a black 80 with lockers? besides me... Ed

    seats

We use my '96 for long road trips. Coming home this past Sunday, we wondered if we could replace the front seats with some that are more comfortable. I'm 6' 2". The seats in the '96 seem more comfortable than those in a friend's '91. I think the bottom is longer in mine. makes me wonder if they...

    speaker wiring...help

I'm trying to splice into the wires that go to the speakers in the cargo area headliner in my '96. The right speaker has a white with grey wire and a red with grey wire. The left speaker has a yellow wire and a black wire. My question is...which are the ground wires? Will greatly appreciate...

    trans fluid temp

OK, Cary has become an oil maniac and I'm becoming a fluid temp maniac. Just got home from a 2 week, 3300 mile road trip. The one readout I'm not getting on my OBDII scanner is trans fluid temp. So I called AotoXray - the mfg of the scanner. They said no scanner will give the info because the...

    lockers or sink

Some time ago, there was a discussion about the value of lockers and whether someone in the market for an 80 should keep looking to find one. here's an experience I had this week... While running on dirt roads along the coast in Northern Ca we saw a beach that we really wanted to get on. We got...

    coolant temp update

Just got back to civilization and Internet world and want to update my high coolant temp situation from last month. After experiencing Chernobl-type coolant temps while towing a 5000 lb load in the Az desert and mexico, we did a trip to Palm Springs with no towing. With the OBDII scanner hooked...

    fill 'er up

The manual for my '96 says the tank holds 25 gal. I've driven as much as 30 miles with the little orange light on and the most its ever taken is 22.5 gal. What's the most fuel you have gotten in and how far did you drive with the warning light on? Ed

Looking for trails up Pacific Coast

We will be driving the 80 from Long Beach, CA, up the coast to Seattle. First stop will be Monterey/Santa Cruz. No boat this time. Can anyone suggest some good off-raoding from there on up? We'll be looking more for scenic, fun stuff than hard core rock crawling types. Any good book guides...

    Back from Mexico

Made it back with no meltdowns. Thanks to all who helped talk me down from the high coolant temp anxiety attacks. Intake air readings hit a whopping 179 degrees on the way back. There was an amazing amount of carnage along I8 on the mountain passes...18 wheelers, buses, cars, vans...all...

    On the road w/temp gauge

Started out on the trip to mexico today - towing a boat. The temp guage either reads normal or just below red zone. I feel in the dark not knowing actual temperatures. I'm thinking of stopping and buying a temp guage. Is there any easy place to install the sender on the engine? If not easy...

    Lift is more than expected

Had OME 861/862 coils installed today and was expecting a little less than an inch lift. Pre and post installation measurements show a 2" lift in rear and 2.25" in front. Only thing that comes to mind is that the old ('96 with 120,000) springs were really tired and were compressed over an inch...

    Beware of Truckaddons

I'll never buy anything from Truckaddons.(com) again. I ordered Edelbrock shocks from them because they had them in stock at a good price and if I paid extra they would send them the same day and 3 day delivery. To make a long (2 week) story short, they were not in stock; they didn't notify...

    steel wheels

Steel wheels were discussed last week in two threads(mine and Photoman's). Here's the additional info I learned the hard way... Last Friday I bought 5 Rock Crawler wheels. The bolt pattern was right(6x5.5), the offset was 0 and backspacing 4.25 - close enough. Center bore was 108mm vs 106mm for...

    BFG AT KO's (and  wheels)

Let's see how many people I put to sleep with another tire/wheel thread. I was under the impression that if I wanted these tires for a '96 I would have to choose from the /75 series - 265 or 285, or 295, or even 305's. But now I find that AT KO's are available in LT275/70/R16 and even...
