Ferg-think you might be a bit confused. The rotors could be vented. Need to look on the edge for that. They certainly arent drilled or slotted and definately arent the right size.
JT sent me a hub socket that didnt fit. Took a while to get through but finally got the right part. My biggest...
No, no... dont get me wrong. Im not complaining. Picked up piles of good axle info for future project consideration. Keep it coming! Just not sure his original ? ever really got answered. See Mancinator was asking about price for cutting axles and got Axle Swap 101 in return...
Sorry to hear it wasnt what you were looking for but (no offense) these guys forgot about you a long time ago. I get a kick out of it when they get on a rant anyway. Maybe the next one will suit your needs. Good luck.
Get a machine shop to make the brackets for you using the pattern in the Tech Section http://www.birfield.com/~morgan/tech/LCDBC1.pdf
Many writeups in the tech section. Pick one you like and go for it.
I think Ive got about $150 in mine. Worth every penny.
Where did you get your master cylinder? Some out there are junk out of the box. Might just try to rebleed everything again, including the master, and see if it helps
Scrap the rear drums for disc while your fooling with it. Much mo betta!
I think the idea of using a 4 wheel disc master is that you dont need the proportionoing valve because its built in. Cant say from experience since I added one externally. 2nd the Summit.
Thats what I thought but... guess its more or less indestructable. I dont think this one can be killed.
BTW, its a 78 2F in a 71'. POs did some weird stuff to it.
Heres what I did. Shortly after I parked it and started working on my house, I added some Stabil to the tank to help keep the...
Word I hear is people seem to like them better than points. Supposed increased response and mph. I dont have any experience with electronic ig yet but have been looking into several dist upgrades and thats one of the better ones from what I can tell. Doing it soon I hope.
IIRC, you should be able to wire up the acc and ig to the same terminal. With the switch you bought, you just wont be able to turn the key backwards and run accessories like the radio with power to the ig system off like you used to.
So after 2 years of sitting neglected (I am so ashamed) and a couple of months of tinkering, I have SUCCESS! :D Got the old girl fired up today and moving under her own power! In the immortal words of the Motor City Madman, "The beast lives! Long live the beast!"
Unfortunately, as good as...
Appreciate the tip. The PO did install a radio but Im not sure where/how its hooked up. Probably the spare. That still doesnt explain why Im loosing juice with the radio disconnected. Seems like something may be amiss in the horn circuit since I have to disconnect both circuits to get a 0...
Lets start by saying Im not an electrician nor do I know much about wiring. After finishing a total gutting and rebuild of a house (wife insisted on one project at a time >:( ), I have started in on the FJ (a 71' with 78' 2F). Just finished 4 wheel disc brake conversion (learned that POs can...
nspctr1,
You mentioned a while back you didnt have the drivers side steering arm or tie rods for your mini axle. Its true older (pre-78?) LC steering arms wont fit the mini axle. 81 LC steering arms WILL fit the mini stud pattern! The bonus here is that there is no shimming TREs to fit the...
Anyone tried a Hell Creek suspension kit out of New Albany, Mississippi? They used to build for others under different names (I forgot who thought) but started selling the kits themselves under the Hell Creek name a while back. Its around $530 (+ $20 for Heckethorn nitro shocks).
Someone...
Read a little about the HEI swap. Sounded good but I was slightly nervous about the gear swap and rigging up a hold down clamp. :-/ Seemed easier to leave the stock dist in and just slap the Mels kit on it. No real fabrication or guess work required. Am I getting worked up about nothing or...
Go disc! It will be cheaper, require less tinkering, and safer in the long run anyway. Read all about it in the tech section. Lots of good info there on the conversions.
Lean it out and rev it up. If all else fails, move down here to Alabama! :D
Missions? You must be crazy, boy! Only kinda missions we got is tryinta get tha shine past ole Roscoe an inta tha dry counties!
I just did the swap and got a kit from JTO that had all gaskets, seals, and knuckle bearings and races to fit my 84 mini donor. Call and tell them what your doing and they will get you the right kit. Around $100 and worth it. :) They were very helpful. To be fair, I ordered a hub socket at...
