    Does this Runner look legit?

Shopping around for a manual 4Runner, I found this one, a bare bones '98 4-cyl. Carfax shows a clear title, but I'm a little befuzzled by the rims, the cruise control and the rear locker switches (?). Dealer first advertised it as a V6 before I got him to correct the listing. Could this possibly...

    Labrador/Newfoundland anyone?

Hi Planning a trip to Labrador/Newfoundland, in July/August 2011. I'd hit the road North from MD to Quebec, drive to Happy Valley-Goose Bay and then South to the ferry landing to Newfoundland, again South to Nova Scotia and back home. I hear that the last missing stretch of the Trans-Labrador...

    Roof tent on a 3rd gen 4Runner - doable?

Lurking at a 3rd gen 4Runner for an expedition rig. But is it even possible to install a roof tent on those? My previous rig ('94 FZJ80) had gutters, good for sturdy aftermarket roofracks, but from what I see on pics those Runners don't. And I guess that the factory plastic roof racks can't...

    Culver City 70 sighting

Sorry if this is chat-y, but I encountered a roaring Diesel-powered 70 (BJ?) last Sunday in Culver City, CA - quite uncommon under our blue skies. Greenish color, older dude behind the wheel, CA registration. Rings a bell, anyone?

Jumpstarting a 80 - how many miles to drive until the battery's charged?

Well, as the title says it, once I have jumpstarted my 80, how many miles, or for how long should I drive it before the battery is charged so I can start it next time? The voltmeter isn't accurate enough for me to be sure and I'd like you to share your experience and thoughts. Thanks.

Drained battery, oxydation on the (+), symptoms of what?

So my 80 sat for a while since my last summer trip and as I wanted to start it over again I got no juice. Since the battery was old anyway, I decided to replace it, same specs and all, and everything went fine, cranked and started all right. Rig sat again for weeks (two months tops) before I...

Getting a blank page sted of the 80 FAQ

Tried two links about one minute ago and I'm getting a blank page when I try to read the FAQ. Usual 'mud headline but nothing underneath. Am I alone?

L.A. to Portland and back - what not to miss?

So I want to head to Portland from LA next May with my family aboard my 80. The plan is to speed up to SF and then head north through the 5, visiting Lassen, Shasta, Crater Lake and the Columbia river, then go west and return south on the 101. I'd love to visit Mt St Helens but I might run out...

80s competing at this year's Dakar rally!

Hi - I nearly fell of my chair when I realized that at least FOUR 80s were currently competing at this year's Dakar rally (tonight in Mendoza, Argentina). The bad news is that many of them already had to abandon, but isn't that amazing that a car that has been discontinued in most countries for...

How many miles did you drive with your 80s in '08?

Now that 2008 is winding down, how many miles did you guys drive with your 80s this year? Mine is no DD and I drove it roughly 4,500 miles, which is not enough, but not too bad for the year of the hair raising gas prices. Happy 09 everyone.

First footage of a bullet ridden 200!

First footage of a bullet riddled 200! Well, looks like OSCE monitors in Georgia knew how to travel in style... That is, before their 200 unwillingly got some new vents. Enjoy: Dailymotion - Georgia 1112

Look what I found down on my street

Hi All, I'm usually more of a 80 guy, but here's something you might find interesting, parked down on my street. The wheels are maybe a little bit over the top, but the overall look is not too bad. Plus it's eco-conscious (so it brags). Looks like a RHD HJ or BJ 60?

Just talked my neighbor out of buying my 80

So my neighbor's car died. Everyday he's passing by my dusty 80 and he was wondering if it was for sale as he badly needed a car to go to work (20 miles of surface streets in LA, in and out). As I'm soon leaving the US for good, I said that he could buy it if he wanted it... and then I told him...

Gunnison, CO - too late in the year?

How would look Gunnison, CO weatherwise in late September? Too late to visit Black Canyon with VERY young kids or feasible without freezing to death? Snow chances? Chains needed? Any input appreciated.

    Cup holder solution for '91-'94?

 I had an idea watching my Matrix's rear cupholders (left side of the pic): wouldn't they fit the dashboard of a '91-'94 series 80? Some mangling would be required but as there are no airbags in those rigs, the plastic in front of the passenger is free for all to sawzall, right? No, I...

Funky ergonomics: anything to complain about in a 80?

Funky ergonomics: anything to complain about in an 80? There's a funny feature in Automobile Magazine about cars featuring "funky ergonomics". Made me think about controls in the 80, and there's at least a annoying thing that I can think of: the triggers for the hood and gas door, similar in...

Tire thread left on a Matrix

What's a reasonable tire thread left? I used the coin trick on my Matrix (215/55 17) and the dephth is just enough to reach the "head" of FDR on a dime, ie 1 millimeter tops. It doesn't rain much here in CA but is in your opinion a tire change overdue?

    Kind advice: watch the ground!

So I drove the rig yesterday to the mechanic for a scheduled service (oil change and all) and it's only back home that I noticed quite a large stain of coolant on the ground of the now empty parking space. I called the mechanic to let him know about it and when I got the rig back this morning he...
