I just replaced the transfer case shift lever seat in my '93 4WD 4-Runner with the manual transmission. I'm having a lot of trouble holding down the metal cover against the force of the spring so I can install the retainer clip. Are there any tips and/or special tools that will make this easier?
This afternoon I tested a used '78 2F igniter in my '76 FJ40 with FJ60 distributor. I wanted to ensure the igniter would work with a 1/75 through 9/77 2F distributor converted to Toyota electronic ignition. Over the past few days I spent several hours searching the MUD forums and other Internet...
Kit includes all parts to convert your early 2F points distributor to Toyota electronic ignition. Here's what's included:
- Modified Toyota 4M 6-cylinder distributor breaker plate, assembled and lubricated with new races and ball bearings - ready to install in your distributor
- Used Toyota...
I'm lubricating the front driveshaft on my '93 4-Runner (with basically the same double cardan joint as in the early FJ60s) and have a question. I used my grease gun to add grease to the U-joints on the double cardan joint and everything went well. Then I went to add grease to the third zerk...

I posted this in the '95 and Earlier Truck/4-Runner forum, but I thought I'd post this here as well.
After a lot of jockeying around, I was finally able to get the transmission installed to the point where the transmission input shaft has cleared the clutch splines. The gap between the engine...
After a lot of jockeying around, I was finally able to get the transmission installed to the point where the transmission input shaft has cleared the clutch splines. The gap between the engine and bellhousing is now down to about 3/8", so I'm thinking I'm at the pilot bearing. Or am I at the...

We had a great time at the first annual Land Cruiser Unite event at MERUS Adventure Park in Palo Duro Canyon last fall. @POTATO LAUNCHER was instrumental in setting up that event. Here is a new event scheduled for June 2022:

I'm looking for an inexpensive grille to temporarily adorn the front of my '86 FJ60 for the upcoming 2022 Pig Party - I can source the zip-ties separately :-).

Were there different types of end features on the F engine and early 2F engine fuel pump diaphragm rods - the feature that captures the pump arm?
The photo shows one type, but the one I had was tee-shaped, without a hole, as shown in @red66toy's rebuild video...
This morning I decided to add another distributor R&D project to my list - converting F engine distributors to Toyota electronic ignition. This would also include any non-US Land Cruiser small cap distributors such as 19100-61080 and 19100-61010. So far it looks promising.
I'm not a machinist...

I just ran across this useful tip in RockAuto's January newsletter, which was just posted today, and thought it was worthy of sharing. I'll give it a try today on a few OEM nylon parts and post the results. The first part I'll try is an old yellowed nylon distributor terminal, I have a lot of...

This weekend I decided to test the nine remaining early F engine vacuum advancers in my stash, and to find an easy and reliable way to adapt the 1/8-inch copper tubing fitting to accommodate OEM vacuum hose.
My initial surprise was that all nine had diaphragms that work and hold vacuum. It...
As I refurbish each FJ60 distributor, I clean the dust proof cover that snaps over the signal generator. I use a mild solution of dishwashing liquid and an old toothbrush. After cleaning and rinsing they tend to lose their color as they dry - they turn from black to light brown. From what I can...
