So I've got a 1977 40 series. I rebuilt the transmission and transfer case a little over a year ago. I've been a little bothered by the shifting of the transfer case and have had it up on my lift looking and wondering. So the situation is when shifted back, to 4H, the shifter shaft is about...
Yup I did the same springs and initially it was level. Then at about the third year she fell to the left... Now at five years and I hate it. I'm thinking of trying to re-arc my springs in my press. It's a damn big press !! But not sure if its smart to cold bend em. Anyone out there done it ?
Finished doing my best on my metal panels that go on the back of the seats... BUT I have no idea what they were originally attached with in the way of screws. Anyone know if it was screws and washers or ? Small screw with really large head ? Size perhaps ? I can dig around at the hardware...
Yes there will be a little. When the transmission is mounted and the nose of the input shaft is inside the Pilot bushing there will be almost none. That type of "joint" has virtually no strength. However once each of those is secured within two other bearings it doesn't need very much. Keep...
Thanks I've decided to press in new ones and bore them to ,003-,005 clearance. And see what happens. You're link is the best data I've seen. I should have thought of that !!!
I currently have ,010 clearance. .005 per side if you want to think of it that way. No problem putting it together. Just trying to decide what is too much clearance. What is a "worn out" bushing ? This clearance allows the axle to wobble in the axle tube seal. Too much it leaks. But I...
Thanks But I'm trying to determine if they even need to be replaced. How does anyone know if they're worn too much ? If no one has a service limit or clearance value to work with. I understand many have to replace due to damage from a broken Birfield. I'm not in that situation. I'm simply...
I'm in the process of rebuilding my knuckles on my 77' and got to the point of ordering parts. At this point I'm trying to assess the condition of my spindle bushings. I've spent most of a day looking through FSMs and reading posts on Mud. Lots of statements like "replace em if they're worn"...
I'm presently rebuilding my knuckles and I am looking at this same bushing. Inner end of the spindle. I'm trying to assess what the proper clearance should be for this and haven't found anything yet. I'm pretty sure mine hasn't ever been replaced and it currently has .010 of clearance. To...
The whine in my 77' is specifically in third gear. Acceleration and deceleration, quiet right in the no load zone. Quiet in all other gears. Thoughts ?? I'm thinking its transmission.
Cant acess their website. Something to do with their certificate. Was like this for some time. Are they still in business and if so, why don't they fix it.
I had the same issue with mine about 15 Yrs ago. I took it to a shop that did "flame spray" and they built it up. Then I put it in one of our grinders and reground the shaft. Can certainly be done. Mines great after 15 more yrs.
I found two ways. First look for the links in the OPs signiture info areas. Second - Coolerman has a link to his files and has copies there as well. Enjoy.
