As said before, inside the speedo are a bunch of plastic gears (one for each number wheel). On each of these gears is a pin that rolls once a revolution to turn the next (to the left) wheel, if one of these pins break or fall out you will stop getting a mileage count from that wheel or higher...
Sounds simple and you've probably already checked it, but... this happened to me once, went to the dealer to buy a new flasher unit - he asked if I had checked my tail light bulbs. Appearently if one of the bulbs burn out, your flashers stop flashing.
Same situation here Woody, I got a TH350 sitting in the shed given to me for free ( that someone is saving up $500 to buy from me - hard to turn that down). Been thinking about buying a 700R4 from Bowtie Overdrive Transmissions. Need more info here. If you got an opinion or experience...
I think I may have something I've downloaded but will have to wait until I get home to check my harddrive. I believe it is the actual computer program used by Toyota for parts look up.
Can I get a consensus on a fair selling price for a 1977 FJ-40 4 speed transmission, rebuilt by Marlin at Marlins Crawlers about 3 years ago, seen about 2000 miles since all "on-road" miles. Includes PO homemade Chevy engine adapter. Probably won't be selling for a few months, but would like...
Just went through this... If the doors are orginal you can remove the door cylider lock and look for the code stamped on the lock, with this number they can cut you a new key that will fit both door and ignition. Can't remember, but I believe it was only a couple dollars and my time spent.
How about using the bell housing from a chevy 250 I-6. The fork is on the left on those and should bolt right up to V-8 engine/transmission. Probably pretty cheap at junk yard.
Noah, I was think the exact same thing. Most new cars/trucks pull air from the side of the engine compartment and have a shorter tube/snorkle to the engine. I thought the safari snorkel would work just as good and be a bit more practical for an FJ-40 - but how about the filter? Anyone have...
"The other problem with the string is that I dont have a pedal to hook it up to. Maybe one string for giving it gas and another for letting off the gas?"
There you go. How about using the brake pedal. Push the brake - lets off gas; release brake - full throttle. Sounds like a fun way to...
Interior Windshield Wiper...
Great for when running with top off, always get back spray when it rains. Also great for clearing dew off during spring/fall mornings. Total cost - $3.00 and the "holder" is free. (While you're looking, check out the mileage... 20 miles, although the true mileage...
Gumby - you know I think the same has happened with me.
Eskimo - Thanks for the info, never even considered Marlin - and have always had the best dealings with him and his products.
After a little thought and consideration, I think I may go with a 700R4 auto. Now to decide on trans/transfer case adapters... anyone have any experiece with Downey or AA? Right now I am leaning towards Downey's short adapter (1 1/2 inch) just to keep a little extra lenght for the rear drive...
Yes, but you will need an adapter. May have one for you in a few months if you aren't in a hurry, in fact, may have a Chevy 250 I-6 re-built with Clifford performance parts - if your interested.
