The weight for the engine with engine wiring harness, starter, alternator, power steering pump, air pump, fan and flex plate is 629 lbs. Add in the air cleaner with air flow sensor, ignition coil with igniter and air pump silencer and the weight comes to 649 lbs. These are actual weights...
Right now it is just setting upright on a small pallet that would not be suitable for shipping. Let me take a look and see how best to prep it for shipping and get you an accurate weight.
No responses! I did find this which could be a solution but not ideal: Transfer case modification success - Toyota Prado How To's, Technical Information & Reviews -...
I took a closer look at my 1KZ and it does not have an EGR system. The place on the intake manifold where the EGR pipe would normally attach was not drilled so evidently trucks from Panama come without EGR from the factory. No carbon buildup in the intake!
I have a 2003 Prado, 1KZ-TE with a 5-speed manual transmission. The motor is gutless below 1800 RPM which causes problems when trying to start up a steep incline on asphalt in 1st gear without excessive clutch slippage. So the solution is to shift the transfer case into low but that also...
The 126,00 km truck turned out to be a 426,000 km truck with many, many problems so I decided to pass on it. Instead I picked up a 2003 Prado with the 1KZ turbo diesel. Thanks for all the input.
The owner claims it is a 1HDT so I assume it is a 12-valve. Since it can be done without pulling the engine, I will probably do it myself.
Thanks for the link. I knew the issue had been discussed many times but somehow couldn't find the thread.
I'm considering buying a 1997 80 series with the 1HDT engine. It has 126,000 km on the clock. Based upon reading various threads here, it is a good idea to inspect/replace the BEB's. Can that be done with the engine in the truck? Should the rod bearings also be replaced at the same time...
I don't know the quality of diesel here in Costa Rica. There are a lot of diesel powered cars and trucks here and all the gas stations get their fuel from a government run refinery. So I believe that at least the diesel fuel here is uniform.
I'm looking to purchase a Prado here in Costa Rica. The two models that I'm considering are the pre 2002 J90 with the turbo 1KZ-TE diesel and the post 2002 J120 with the intercooled turbo 1KD-FTV diesel. There doesn't seem to be a big price differential between the two models - they are both...
Good running 1988 3FE engine with all accessories. Shows 161,098 miles on the odometer. Includes everything from flex plate forward to fan: Alternator, power steering pump, all smog stuff, uncut engine wiring harness, air cleaner, etc. Air conditioning compressor is missing but mounting bracket...
Look into getting a wrecked FZJ80. With a 4" stretch of the frame, it is an almost perfect fit for a 45. With it you you get a good frame, coil suspension, A442 or A343 automatic transmission, a 1FZ-FE engine and power steering. It appears to be a quite popular swap in Australia and there is...
Yes, definitely!
Having moved the gasket, the door closes much easier but the slightest bump in the road, and Costa Rica roads are nothing but bumps, and the latch releases and the door swing open. I may have to resort to the tried and true Costa Rican solution - rope!
I arrived in Costa Rica about a month ago and my ARB lockers arrived here a few days ago so I have not had a chance to do the install. I probably won't begin the swap until December, the beginning of the dry season. I will post the results.
