    Soft top suggestions?

Like posters before me have stated, I'd highly recommend going to Toyota for your twists and McMaster Carr for your twist female fittings. Toyota pn 65928-60010 TROA hardware just isn't very good. Plus they provide only three twists per side and I think 5 looks better. Toyota has 6 straps on...

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66 in a 1969 FJ40

Just a short update. While Mavis is at Higgy's shop, we've decided to put some serious work into her. Once that is complete, I'll resume posting here, as by no means do I consider this journey over.

I never ran the engine prior to installing the sender adapter. Though I only torqued the adapter to the block but forgot to torque the sensor to the adapter upon installation, so got a mini-Vesuvius upon start up.

You need an adapter to run an early sensor in a 2F. I got mine from Matt's Toyota skunk works. https://vintageteqparts.com/ I recommend mastering the 3 speed in all its glory prior to going 4 speed. You might find you like it.

Thinking about the build. Next Steps for Zeke

It worked until I moved to Tennessee. Have you tried removing it and soaking it in some kind of penetrating oil? My e brake for my 80 series was frozen solid, but my mechanic was able to free it with little effort just by removing it and dinking with it.

Got some more toys in the mail today. Door inserts for a great price, delivered cheaply from Unobtainium. I obviously haven't installed them yet, but they look ok.

While I don't have a land cruiser to work on, I do have a defective wiper assembly. Disassembled it and found the drivers side mechanism was frozen with rust and possibly old lube. Got that sucker out of there through all the mechanical chicanery I know. Now to test it out.

BTW, I gotta say that @landcrusher909 arranges some pretty elaborate entertainment for his guests. Turns out he had Elon Musk have a space launch from Vandenberg to entertain us as the sun went down.

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66 in a 1969 FJ40

Well, the journey ends (for now), at Higgys in Phoenix. https://higgys.com/ Strangely enough, my first land cruiser breakdown was in Phoenix, when @Tools R Us and @inkpot rescued me from my ignorance and poor buying decisions. Now I am bailed out by yet another Phoenix area cruiser expert...

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66 in a 1969 FJ40

I really enjoyed my time there. It was great getting the wipers sorted out, but right now I wished I would've stayed longer to get after that timing cover leak. We are currently in Phoenix, with an extremely sick dog at the animal hospital and will be taking my rig to Higgys tomorrow morning to...

    Dogs of MUD!

We reached the end of Route 66 and found a beach hotel. Charley took the opportunity to use my lovely bride as a way to watch people on the beach.

All it takes is equal amounts of stubbornness and stupidity. Two traits I have in abundance.

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66 in a 1969 FJ40

Stopped at a couple obligatory Route 66 stops. Despite all TEOTWAWKI predictions of a new ice age in LA, this is what greeted us. Let's be honest. LA still sucks. But Santa Monica/Venice Beach is breathtaking. And I put a bid on a nice room just a block off the beach and won it. At an...

Getting Our Kicks on Route 66 in a 1969 FJ40

Woke up in Barstow to dire warnings of a late winter snowstorm in the LA area. We considered our options and decided to set out, as the main action looked to start about an hour down the road, and my plan was to launch from there the next day, drive to the end of Route 66, and blitz homeward to...
