    Holy hell…43 year old bushings

Supposedly yes. Some like the old factory springs for springover lifts. The old factory springs are mucho flexy when installed on top of the axle. I recall hearing this a while back when I installed 2.5 Heavy OME springs and I chucked the old ones in the back of my shed where they still sit.

    Holy hell…43 year old bushings

Air hammer. I bought a 20 dollar one from Harbor Freight a number of years ago for this job. It somehow still works. They come with a couple chisel attachments, you can just chop those one of those off flush so you now have a 90 psi cylindrical hammer.

Should the third member be dropped to replace the pinion seal on an 8.4” rear diff?

I agree with @gnob on the "correct" way However...I am guilty of installing a new pinion seal just to limp along for a couple months (years?) until I eventually did a full diff rebuild. You dont need any special tools outside of a torque wrench and some flat steel bar with a holes drilled in it...

Should the third member be dropped to replace the pinion seal on an 8.4” rear diff?

Ive replaced a pinion seal with the 3rd attached. I think the issue with leaving the 3rd installed is that your preload may get messed up from turning the axle shafts incl wheel bearings and rubbing the races on wheel bearing seals. Any minor brake drag would also affect your preload. If the...

Rear main seal or oil pan leak?

I second the use of a scissor jack. I did this job on my fj40 with a jack...the key is to add pressure slowly and walk away. I recall coming back to the truck the following morning and the oil pan was magically on the floor! Dont rush it with the jack or you could damage the pan.

    T100 Alternator Issue

T100s were only sold in the US and Canada. Alternators returned as cores arent always the right one. Perhaps you could try buying another one locally (for easy returns) and see if it matches your old one. Good luck! (T100 owner since 2009, 275K on the original alternator)

Disregard the Henry Ford quote. Haha. It looks amazing regardless.

The black paint with black bedliner accents brings a tear to my eye. Very well done.

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

Thanks @brian az I think you have a little more pipe real estate with the stock manifold. The "collector" so to speak is much further upstream. I'll order another bung and put the 02 farther back one of these days. My truck runs awesome right now so I do not want to mess with it

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

I assumed that it was not desirable to be downstream of the header flange. I suppose I could weld in another bung, plug the 1st, and verify that the readings are consistent between the 2 locations. Thanks everyone.

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

Holley Sniper 02 install instructions above. They clearly dont want the sensor that far back. So you are installing after your first exhaust gasket/flange? (Not counting the exhaust mani gasket of course)?

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

I installed an Innovate Motorsports 3729 Heat-Sink Bung Extender HBX-1 in October (Post #88 on this thread). I have 6>1 headers and the O2 is as far back as I can get before first gasket/flange. I'll now be very careful about turning on the key without starting the truck, and also trying to...

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

I had a saved version of the baseline setup map, 100% fuel prime and 5 fuel prime multipler was indeed stock. I did not mess with that previously. The truck took a couple seconds to start yesterday at 60%, 3 multiplier, so Ill inch back up towards the stock settings and find a happy medium...

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

I remembered that I bought the Bosch 02 sensor at O'Reilly's, so they happily exchanged it within the 1 yr warranty period. Installed new sensor, reduced fuel prime to 60 percent (was at 100%), reduced fuel prime multiplier to 3 (was 5). Started right up and ran perfectly. I'll report back...

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

I didnt turn on the igniton repeatedly without starting but this is something good to think about for the future. I am goinng to try turning down the fuel prime in the sniper map. Currently I am at a 5 out of 10. Has anyone tried turning off the fuel prime entirely? I wouldnt mind cranking...

    Sniper Conversion - 72 FJ40 - F155 Engine

Checking back in since I replaced the 02 sensor in November 2023...the replacement Bosch 17025 02 sensor started misbehaving yesterday. It was intermittently pegging at 35.6 AFR on startup. I turned off closed loop and drove around town just fine. The sensor is welded in and mounted per Holleys...

2024 40s Only Run planning thread

June 15 and 29 currently look good for me. Bummed out I missed this last year. This will be good motivation to repair a few minor nagging issues on the cruiser.

    Holley Sniper or Howell?

Re: the "kits" for $2400...those arent required unless you are going for the OEM look (bent hard fuel lines). You can piece together your own "kit" of sorts for slightly less and you will have exactly which parts/peices you want. The complete "kits" assume that your rig is 100% OEM. If the PO...
