Tried JonD suggestion, the Defenders available from (local major tire chain with three letter name) in one width smaller, 265/70R16 (OEM is 275). The Defenders had significant lateral tread runout, but I gambled on them anyway and the ride turned out OK. (Lateral runout usually causing less...
The runout problem was obvious looking at the tires on the balancer. Wheels not the problem. Tire seller saw it too, offered to put my old tires back on when he saw it.
I've always had this problem with these particular Michelins in this size. This is just worse than previous. I've had good...
Seeking recommendations for all season tires.
Been using OE-spec Michelin LTX M/S in OEM size 275/70R16 since I bought the '99 LX470 new, but have always had problems with tire runout / force variation -induced vibration.
Road Force balancing helps, but costly and does not fully resolve the...
Anybody have any good ideas to eliminate buzz/rattle from Transfer Hi-Lo Shift Lever?
Mainly happens only when fully warmed up, around 20-25 mph, certain load conditions.
I rigged something years ago which stopped it, but it came back recently. Now I've rigged something else* that has...
Your mileage is ranging from about 14 to 16mpg, doesn't seem to correlate to altitude much. That variation could easily be due to just variarions in operating conditions other than altitude (elevation).
The 1999 LX470 curb weight is about 5500 lb, with heavy running gear, I expect the 2001 LC...
Don't know about a dealer, but I remember back in the 80's when I worked in auto shops we used plain tap water, straight from a hose pipe connected to city water. Filtered or distilled water costs more, I would not expect a typical shop to use it unless they can't get away with using plain tap...
Curious: Those who found original Ts deteriorated / disintegrated: Do you know history of vehicle coolant changes? If so, was it every 30k miles using distilled water for mix as recommended?
I followed recommended 30k intervals using 40/60 distilled water /coolant mix from the beginning (LX...
I bought a leather drivers seat bottom cover in August 2014 for my LX from Shane. Good response, good product, fit well and still holding up well. No complaints (other than PITA job itself and finding my seat heater wire had nearly worn to a break with "overheating" signs at one place).
Its...
I am actually looking for non-wood type. This LX (1999) came with 100% leather, I would prefer that or some plain textured resilient plastic OEM Toyota or ?
Problem with a vehicle that posted maybe 50k total units per year production is that salvage parts are scarce. $700+ for a new steering...
Notice that OEM steering wheels seem to be pretty rare. (Other than the new ones at the dealer, which are exorbitantly expensive.)
Can anyone advise regarding other OEM steering wheels that fit the 1998-2002 100 series, including accepting the OEM 100 series center horn/airbag pad?
Such as...
You smelled coolant around the first time you noticed level drop? That implies an external leak somewhere. Pressure test. Don't forget the rear heater core/connections if yours has this option.
Some burping after coolant change is normal, as is some slow evaporation from overflow bottle, but...
Seat heaters are mainly needed for leather seats, which are colder on the buttocks than cloth seats in cold conditions.
I have mixed feelings about seat heaters, after discovering a burnt spot in the polyurethane cushion evidently caused by a fatigued heating wire bend in my drivers seat bottom...
Aside from application-specific things like environmental conditions, windshield condition, pressure etc., wiper blades performance depends greatly on wiper blade aspects including chemical formulation, production tooling and process control, and finished product "freshness".
It takes a lot of...
Got my replacement seat bottom cover from MetricTLC yesterday. It came with some small elastic cords and other parts in a bag. Still waiting on a reply from MetricTLC about these parts, but meanwhile, can anybody here identify them and what they are for? See image:
MetricTLC sells a drivers seat bottom leather cover only, about $300 delivered with installation tool/kit. Don't know firsthand anything about quality, fit, etc. - I ordered one a couple weeks ago but not sure when it will ship. You can do a search on MetricTLC on Mud to get some more...
I think one reason older Sequoias may look dated is the headlight bezels: Toyota used the plastic bezel (lense) material that turns cloudy and yellowish over time. That makes any vehicle look dated.
Haven't noticed that problem with older LC, and my LX has glass headlight bezels (lenses)...
Did my tees recently, after reading these posts.
For some reason, mine were in good shape, at 180k miles on 99 LX. The hoses are also all in good shape, no reinforcement weave deterioration or other problems. I suspect it may be related to maintaining good coolant chemistry: I always use...
Anyone used this parts source? If so, can you offer info on how well it worked out, parts as represented, prices, etc.?

As noted, your referenced source "ayaman.com" does not appear to be viable. Is that the correct source?
(Not to hijack this thread, but info on reasonable cost AHC globes might be relevant to a decision to buy LX or AHC-LC vs. Sequoia. I would avoid used 12-year-old LX with over 120k miles...
Accumulator charge depletion is probably affected by use, more pressure cycles and/or higher pressure peaks due to more miles and/or rougher roads probably accelerates the leak rate. Also, general wear of the seals and bladder are likely increased by high cycle fatigue effect, also affected by...
