My son has a very tidy LJ70RV Bundera but the 22R isn't exactly a powerhouse. We've been considering a diesel swap, 1KZ or similar for a while but not in front of a G52.
Then this peach popped up a non runner LJ Bundy that we've purchased. Depending on what we can make of it it will be 1KZ...
Not sure how to test at home, but 5 minutes after switching off my engine I have no vacuum left in my brake system.
Which is a pain in a manual trans. You stop on a really steep hill, leave the car in gear, yank on the useless hand brake lever, get out, do whatever you have to do, then to...
So I was putting some transfer case spacers on to lower my gearbox/transfer case - I have a custom hi clearance x-member and part of doing the 1KZ swap meant moving the drivetrain back 19mm and I just don't have enough room / floor gap without lowering the pair as a result - and when doing up...
Ok it's been 14 years since my 80 has had any suspension work done. It's over GVM and handles like a land yacht. You can feel it waltzing away underneath its boggy and sloppy all at the same time... Has an RTT as well not shown in the pics just to raise the COG for good measure.. We fitted...
So i decided time to upgrade from the factory 3L 2.8 diesel to a 1KZ. I don't want the reliability issues involved in aftermarket turbos on a 3L so going with a factory 1KZ-TE converted to mech pump.
Sourced a whole KZN185 and sold off the bits for triple what I paid for it and that's with...
We picked up this neat old 1991 3F 5 speed for my son as his first car. Never off road, no rust, a bit faded in the paint but really clean interior and pretty good panels. Straight and clean.
Paid 3K AUD for it just over a year ago and drove it home (600klm or about 350 miles) on a permit...
Darn annoying. Switch the truck off, ( 1995 80 series) and 10 minutes later you've lost that 1st 'free' brake application with vacuum assist. When you're a manual and on a steep hill, its disconcerting to have to jam your foot so hard on the pedal the truck doesn't roll along while you shift...
Looking for 1st hand experience in how much/ if any extra NVH these HD mounts trasfer through to the cab.
Are they any good as my el-cheapoo after market rubber ones are quiet but let the gearsticks move around a bit.
Cheers.
Guys, any tips for removing those upper bellhousing bolts when the old 'box is still in the truck ?
I haven't lowered the crossmember yet and have used 2 really long extension bars and 2 x 1/2' drive universal joints to get a dog leg joint over the gearbox and up to the top 3 bellhousing bolts...
Catch is you gotta pony up ! I will pick it up for anyone interested.......

I've got a twin case crossmember but whats the easiest way of actually fitting this thing while lining up the input shaft to the clutch and then sliding it forward ? Is it a 4 husky sized guys job ?

Hey all,
Information is a bit sketchy in Aus hoping someone whos done it can chip in.
Using a trail gear V6 adaptor to bolt RF1A gear drive transfer case behind an R150F trans. Then an MC08 doubler to the rear tcase.
The R150F trans has a tailhousing with an opening for a forward shift tcase...
Hi Guys,
Had to pull the motor recenly (3F) in my FJ73 to replace leaky wekch (freeze) plugs, got it all back together again sweet. But I've got no idiot lights on the dash - gauges all work volts go up and down with revs oil, fuel, tach all work just no lights....
Is there a fuse for these I...
I need to replace all my freeze plugs as a result of the most inaccessable one letting go. Suppose you buy an old truck and this is one of the things that happen, sigh.
Are they all the same size how many do I need and what size are the please. I bought a set off ebay for a 3F and they are all...
Guys, I’m about to pull the 3F out to replace a leaking rear freeze plug in the back of the block. Couldn’t be a worse spot to get to. Going to do the whole lot hence pulling the engine.
Question: as you can’t get to the torque converter to move it, how do you align the flexplate holes with...
So did a full overhaul on the front axle for my FJ73. TJM Pro-Locker centre :) new inner seals, new outer seals, new swivel hub bearings, stripped and rebuilt CV's (they were in good nick) new discs, rebuilt calipers, new TRE's basically anything that moves inside or outside the housing was...
Doing an overhaul on my FJ73 including new spindle bushes. FSM says ‘nothing’ about tne orientation of the rifling on the spindle bush. It was vaguely on the bottom as installed but its a new to me rig no idea if they have been replaced previously and what should be right. Anyone in tne know...
Hi guys,
I have a Tattons DC front shaft on my manual FJZ80, works fine no problem there. Doing some regular PM and was greasing under the truck, slip joint seems to be taking grease 'very' easily' hmmm.
Next thing grease is leaking out of the slip joint at the lower uni end, slip my finger in...
Strange...
If we leave the RJ in low range for a few days in the garage, when you shift back to high range, the 4WD lamp stays on. Then, leave it in high range for a few days and pull it into low, the 4WD light doesn't come on.... Must be a gummy or lazy switch somewhere.
Its a vacuum...
