Heavy steering , HDJ 100 year 2000 model

Well , I spent half a day at toyota going thru the - ride height , Ahc pressure and a new allingment. I think Toyota liked having me there , cause they had not done the AHC stuff before.. I also changed the power steering pump - that didn't do much - if anything. A good sett up of AHC/ alignment...

Michelin Latitude Tour HP Tires finally installed on the lx470

For som reason , I just have not been able to get the 100 ride nice on any 275/70 16 tires (they have all been street tires Yokohama ,michelin ). The studied Winter tires are 265/70 and it always been nice to get them on, the ride is so much better - no tram lining. So now I'm ditching my...

It's my big day at Toyota on friday, So I thought I'd put on my old red Toyota mechanic dress and try and help them out. new alignment and fix these other issues. The steering rack is not in the center and i doubt the SAS is either. Can they adjust ( zero ed ) the SAS electronically or does the...

Heavy steering , HDJ 100 year 2000 model

OK. just checked tire preussures ,and I see both the new front tires already have wear on the inside. They have only been on for a few hundred miles. . The caster /camber marks are pretty much in the center. Now I sure they did a (very) bad alignment. It has never worn tires uneven before. I'll...

Paddo , Thats what I was thinking to (steering angel sensor ). I never did get my Tecstream working . I have a buddy that runs a shop with a pro monitor, But I don't want to bug him with this yet. Toyota charges over $ 200 an hour , and they have done the job , they better get it right. Next...

Heavy steering , HDJ 100 year 2000 model

I'm not sure if there is a Filter in the PAS reservoir . But I'll take a look. I've done the other items on the list. Replacing the front UCA did make a big difference on mine too, so I replaced all the bushings and balljoints. I don't see how bad motor mounts could have anything to do with this...

The tires are Michelin truck tires Highway/road. I forget the model, the ones that i took off where Yokohama geolander road tires. i will try adjusting the pressure. I have tried at least 3 different tires and rims 275/75 16, and some 275/?? 20. All road tires. never tried AT or mud . But the...

Heavy steering , HDJ 100 year 2000 model

Thanks for all the replys. Normaly , I do my own work on the truck . That way i know what has been done, how it's been done, and maybe find something else that needs a fix. But I let Toyota change the rack because of time , they have a lift and an alignment + it was in the shop for some...

Heavy steering , HDJ 100 year 2000 model

i've been here before about bad handling , but still things are not good. HDJ 100 4,2 D, 200 k km , manual 5 speed , ahc , 275/70 16 -100% stock. Problem : The truck will not go down the road straight , and making smale corrections at 60 mph is so heavy, you almost need 2 hands on the wheel...

Type of oil for 5-speed manual gearbox ? HDJ 100 2000 model

Time to change oil in the gearbox. The 2nd gear (syncro ) has allways been a little - how should I say - hard to get in gear when it's cold. I Guess it's a common problem with these. I read somewhere that, some types of oil make a big differance on these gearboxes. Castrol vmx-m ??? If anyone...

    How should a UZJ100 drive?

One thing that did improve things alot was replacing the front UCA. A lot of rubber on these bushings . So I replaced them all . But it dosen't seem to be a common problem, and everything I took off l@@ked ok. Right now she is tight as ever, but is soooo Heavy on the Wheel when making small...

    How should a UZJ100 drive?

I'm going to try another LC100, Asp. I don't think Toyota ever would let anything like this out on the road , and I don't see any reason why it shoulden't be able to handle like new. I've had mine for 10 years now (2000 mod , 150 000 miles) , and never had any other problems (well few small...

    How should a UZJ100 drive?

CruiserPek , have you found the cause of the problem ? interesting thread , I have had the same problem for years ! And it still rides like crap. The LC is all over the road , pulls to the left and the right ,and is really not very safe to drive. Good news is that not many have this problem , in...

AHC Torsion bars : how to tell which is right and left side?

Or does it matter ? They have different parts nr, but i can't find any marks or part# on them. It's not going make a difference which way they go front/rear. But if there a left and a right side, is there any way to tell them apart? Thanks !

What are the(hidden) sympthoms of a worn steering rack ?

They started sqeeking over speed bumps after a short time. They didn't go on well /The fit didn't look good-on one side the bushing was sort of coming out a few mm. When getting a front end alinement , they told me the front right wheel was 5mm further back than the left. Not uncommon i guess...

What are the(hidden) sympthoms of a worn steering rack ?

Update : i got the rear LCA bushings out and new ones in. I used the threaded rod (16mm) and socket method. one came out easy ,on the other i striped the threads on the rod , but welding a few nuts together , gave me the leverage I needed. I think It is very Important to have a heavy duty socket...
