    Check Engine Code 21

I was pushing my '91 TLC pretty hard yesterday. Lots of long hot miles in the mountains. At the very end of the day the CEL light came on. I was near home so after checking all the fluid levels I drove the rest of the way with no probs. Truck seemed just fine. After the engine had a chance to...

    Camping Build Out

AMAZING job. So cool that you put all the measurements in that thread. I've been looking for that level of detail. Thanks! The only major difference I want for my conversion is to have the sleeper area fold out over the 2nd row seats. Of course, it will make for less headroom but the vehicle...

    Camping Build Out

Seem like the fridge is consensus "must have." With a dual battery system how long can it stay cold w/o the engine running? I also need a kill switch for the back tailgate open wire. I'm using a screw driver to push the tumbler closed on the back hatch for now but that will get old. Can't...

    Camping Build Out

Well, I only chatted briefly via e-mail but I think it is just... wood, woodworking, 2nd battery & backseat electrical. It's a ballpark price depending on what exactly I want done (cubby's, drawers, etc). Reasonable but not exactly a bargain. It would save me from buying a few tools tho, that's...

    Camping Build Out

I have read many awesome threads about custom TLC camping build outs in here!! I'm gonna do one w the sleeper folding over the 2nd row seats. I am very tempted to do one myself. Then again, I am very tempted to pay nearby 'Torfab' just to deck it out for me. Check out this recent build out...

    Running hot?

It is def worse on chilling AMs. And we were on the ocean (er, Puget Sound) last night and a bunch fog moved through. Makes sense that would contribute. Thanks! Didn't even think of that. Duh. I will have my man look over those valve seals, too.

    Running hot?

I've only about 250-300 on it so far. That said, oil level looks stable.

    Running hot?

After buying a LC I have long desired ('91 FJ80) a few weeks back and getting most of the baseline basics checked off, I finally got it out for good trek. Nothing hard core. Just a few nights of camping. What a great camping rig!! With the seats pulled it has massive cargo space. I do have 2...

    FJ80 Exhaust system

Sorry it a 91. Thanks for the advice all!

    Oil galley plug

Yeah. Someone else recommended this too. I currently have 10w30 but will be going to a higher viscosity (10w40 synthetic Mobil 1, maybe?) on next oil change. On a bright note the oil pressure tests fine manually. That gauge in the dash is not working well.

    FJ80 Exhaust system

Thanks!! Looks like rockauto.com for Bosal? Any other place that sells their stuff? Rock Auto has some even cheaper options too, but I suppose I should be leery (DAVICO MANUFACTURING? EASTERN CATALYTIC?) As long as the exhaust system doesn't fall off the vehicle I am happy to take my time...

    FJ80 Exhaust system

Almost done w FJ80 baseline. Biggest concern left on my list... the exhaust system. It is very rusty. The hanger behind the cats is basically rusted away. I'm just going to use some metal hose clamps to hold it together for now. But anyway... Assuming the worst (need to replace most of the...

    Oil galley plug

Of course, nobody can promise me anything... one way or another. Just looking for opinions. Can't find many pics of leaky oil galley plugs on the 3FE (like I said there are lots of pics of the galley plug on the 2F that are terrifying). Ironically my oil pressure gauge is not seeming to work...

    Oil galley plug

Other horror stories. I've had a hard time figuring out how common the problem actually is so I *really* appreciate your perspective. Thanks!! When I first got the truck, a few mudders mentioned the oil galley plug problem and then I started reading old posts. Yikes! I'm a text book over...

    Oil galley plug

So I am finishing up a first round of baselines on my "new" 91 Fj80 (219K). So far: plugs, wires, distributor rotor/cap, PCV valve, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, load tested battery Tomorrow: Fresh fluid for diffs, tranny, transfer case, lube drive train & will test oil pressure...

    91 FJ80 - Oil pressure question

Thnx. I will report back after I do a manual check. I think I can borrow a tester. If not I'll have my shop run the check.

    91 FJ80 - Oil pressure question

Thanks so much for pic. I was reading about this in the 'don't trust your oil sender' post and the pic really helps. But do I need this for temporary psi check?

    91 FJ80 - Oil pressure question

Thanks for that. I was thinking I might need a different oil. But I still am massively suspicious that the pressure gauge is not working right. Granted, I am not nearly as knowledgable as most everyone who posts here but doesn't, as a matter of basic physics, oil pressure need to rise as the...

    91 FJ80 - Oil pressure question
