Some info for long time members

This is just an FYI, for people that have been around the club for a while. Rick Ellsworth of the Forestry Service is finally actually retiring as of June 30th. He's threatened retirement before, but this time is't for real. He's leaving the USFS after 44 years.

Need recommendations for a frame repair shop.

I need to get a rusted out section of frame repaired (or replaced) on my Tacoma. Does anyone know of shop that can do that sort of work (ideally, without having to mortgage the house). Thanks

    Use extreme caution on 300V

The recent thunderstorms created severe washouts on 300V. They start 1/10 mile west of Rampart Range Rd. Heading west on 300V is very hazardous. You wouldn't be able to see what's going on in front of you. I was going east and had to winch out of washouts twice. It took me an hour to go 0.3...

I just received the email below from Jon Pfeiffer about the cutting program. This year the area south of Mt. Herman won’t be in the cutting area due to the timber cutting operation going on. ======== This year’s Pikes Peak Ranger District - Christmas Tree Cutting Program is happening: MON...

Any ideas on getting this out?

Hey, does anyone have great ideas on how to get this stuck Ford Escape out of the creek. OBTW, it's frozen into the creek. At least the tires are and possibly some of the undercarriage parts are as well. Pfeiffer had Fred's Towing up there, and the tow truck couldn't budge the SUV. (not too...

    2015 Christmas Tree Cutting Support

I didn't see any discussion of supporting the Xmas Tree Cutting, so here's some details I just received from Pfeiffer. Program duration dates are: Monday, November 30th through Wednesday, December 16th. There are TWO weekends during the tree cutting program: DEC 5th & 6th and the 12th & 13th...

Last minute run up Mt. Herman Rd.

I just got an email from Sue Miller (US Forestry) asking if we could get a group of 4-wheelers together to run Mt. Herman Rd. this weekend. Rick will open the upper gate Friday and the contractors will leave the lower gate open as well. Apparently, the road is icy and may have some drifts...

Mt. Herman Rd. & X-mas tree cutting

Just an FYI, Mt. Herman Rd. is closing on Nov. 3 until Jan. 2. So it won't be open during the X-mas tree cutting season. The Forest Service is getting some much needed road work done. Mt. Herman Rd. now has two gates on it: one at Red Rocks Dr. (near Monument) and the second is one the east...

Jeep removal from Gold Camp area

I was talking with Rick Ellsworth of the USFS yesterday and he mentioned that they have a Jeep in the Gold Camp area that they would like extracted. Apparently, it's been stripped of tires and is on a tricky road. So getting a trailer to it may not be possible. He's checking to the the year and...

March 24th Run - Chinaman Gulch

Well, since the trip schedule is still not posted (and as of right now the club's website is down), I thought I'd mention the next run. Where: Chinaman's Gulch by Buena Vista Meeting place: The Western Gas Station just east of Woodland Park Day: March 24th Time: That's a good question. I don't...

    Snow bashing Schubartth?

Out of shear boredom yesterday, I wandered up to Woodland Park and started down Rampart Range Road. For anyone that wants to do some serious snow bashing, just head south on Rampart until you get to the Eagle Lake turn off. That's where they stopped plowing the road and it immediately gets 16-24...

The quasi-semi meeting on the 17th

I thought I'd mention what little happened at the club meeting on the 17th. There were only three of us that showed up (myself, Andy and Darryl). Officially, we never had a meeting; however we did discuss a few things that actually are club business. Meeting Place We all agreed that we didn't...

    Need some fabrication help

Anybody out there with too much time on his hands? I've gotten very tired where ARB forces the location of my winch controls and what to reclocate it. It shouldn't be too big a project. Just cutting some metal and welding it to the bumper. I should be able to scrounge up the metal required. I...

Up for some exploration this weekend?

Anyone interested in doing some exploration around Rampart Range this weekend? There's a couple of trails in the Rainbow Falls area that I'm looking to explore on Sunday (although I could be talked into Saturday). Just thought the weather will be nicer on Sunday. None of the trails are that...
