The problem I have right now is that the drain plug is stuck in the pan it will partially come out then just turns and turns in both directions. I attempted vise grips with no luck. Next step was to bite bullet and order replacement pan.
I went to do a drain and fill on my 2000 lx470 transmission and the bolt stripped the threads coming out. Tried the easy fix of just replacing the bolt with another OEM plug and it is stripped as well. Long story made short is I have a replacement pan on the way. My question is other than...
I found a low mile 2000 for a great price and it made it more reasonable to think about other upgrades as well. It is all about what you find available for what you want to spend.
One year update. I have had Betty for a year and 25k Miles. After the initial fluid exchanges and brakes I have had no other issues. The latest has been new shoes went with 265 75r 16 to not mess with possible power loss. Next step will be a little armor in the front.
My wife has 2013 4runner sr5 4wd that is a great ride and daily driver. based on this when I was looking to replace my work truck I test drove a few of the 4th gen 4runners and yes the V8 does give them some pep but I felt that the interior build materials were on the cheap side. I ended up...
I first had the stereo place install a 300.00 kenwood unit that I thought would be good due to it had the old fashion volume knob instead of buttons. when the shop was walking me through the set up they found that the unit functions were not all working. That on top of the overall cheap look...
yes I had a car stereo place do the install. This was his explanation for bypass. The Amp is 16 years old and will probably go at any moment, The pioneer has a built in amp that is just as good if not better than factory due to better technology between now and then. I am not an Audio geek...
I got my new LX a few months ago other than baselining all the fluids I went ahead and did the stereo with a pioneer 4200 nex and bypassed the factory amp it has made my 16 year old LX feel like a modern car.
the bushings tend to get loose on the higher mileage rigs and then cause other problems to develop. If you catch it early enough you can replace bushings and keep going. The LC has a much heavier steering system then 4runner so it something to check out along with the timing belt.
that is the same theory I am hoping for on my tranny. other than that I just like things like having a dipstick for the transmission on the Pre 2003 models and to me it just seemed simpler to work on.
in later models the navigation system also controls HVAC system so if it goes you have to fix and when I was looking there was no cheap way around it. that may be changed now.
