After driving up Mount Lemmon, and driving down the rugged, bumpy road to my mountain retreat, I put my LC into reverse and heard a horrible grinding noise....
It was my driver's front tire dragging on my bumper, because the front axle shifted forward when I went into reverse.... Why?
It would seem that having less shims would increase the preload, and adding more shims would reduce it - is this right?.
Do the shims space out the bearing retainers on the steering arm (top) and bearing cap (bottom)?
Or am I not clear on how the system works? An explanation would be...
Preferably in Tucson....
If it's in PHX, would of course be happy to pay shipping and of course provide a renumeration - beer, or whatever you might prefer!

I am tearing into my knuckles, due to a poor seal on the axle (inner seal). I intend to use the Marlin Crawler Double Seal... But that's another subject.
The wipers / felts didn't seal that well either.
As I look at the axle balls, I note the surface could use some work. What's the best way...
Pretty awesome rig was shown at C&C last Saturday.

My drivers side hub won't lock anymore (It has worked fine since I did a disk brake swap, which included a change to fine-spline birfields, in about 2002). This is a '74 FJ-40.
When I lock the Passenger Side, I can turn the passenger wheel, and the driveshaft will spin.
When I lock the...
Found a couple of "Barn Find" Land Rovers....
These babies have sat for a long time.
Bodies in great (unrestored) shape... Who knows if they run or drive.
Posting pictures for a friend. Would be interested in people's assessment of the value.
In my opinion, these ought to be refurbished as...
I assume that most / all 2F Motors use the same pan, but....
Mine is a little squashed. I would be interested in an inexpensive replacement. This is a low priority project.

Proposing a quick trip up to the Italian Trap on Saturday, 7 Feb.

I need a pair of rear flares for my '74 FJ-40.
I was running the Man-A-Fre black Plastic Pop-Riveted version, when I had a passenger side accident.
I would certainly be interested in just the Passenger Side one, as well, if someone has the matching Man-A-Fre style.
My fenders are cut.
Very Sad - I am Bummed....
I went out four-wheeling with my neighbor, and due to peer-group pressure (not by the neighbors!), I got caught up in some rocks, and had to do some winching to get out. Had a little “incident” with a rock along the side of the truck on the way past.
We will be meeting on top of Mount Lemmon on Sunday, 11 May (Changed to 18 May). The game plan is to hook up on the top, above the Ski Area again. You pass the Ski Area parking lot and continue about 1-2 miles up to the plateau on top.
We will hang around on top for about an hour, get some...
One of the inlets from the tank just broke off on mine. The separator is Item 45 (below). The separator is a cheesy piece of blow-molded plastic.
Please PM with a picture and price. Thanks -

Anyone want to do Alamo Springs on Friday, 29 November?
The journey is really the destination, there isn't actually very much at the springs.... A couple of trees, and some grass - It's a good place for some sandwiches.
If people are interested, post up. I would like to meet at Circle K...
Ran into a nice guy and his wife travelling across the US in a well-equipped 70 series.
It looks like they have been pretty much everywhere this year.
