Here’s some good chatter about the 100 diffs. Sudden traction after wheel spin seems to be the lethal combo on the first page.

If I didn’t pile on highway miles I’d love 01-02 for simplicity. The 5 speed is a must after having my 2UZ 4R. I like the fact that 03-05 is not VVTI and still mostly non AHC. Nothing against it because it’s great to drive, just like simplicity in case your not close to home. Your right about...
Do some homework on which 100 series you want, 98-99 rear lockers, 00+ ATRAC, 03+ 5 speed tranny, 06+ VVTI (more HP). Wait for the right one and don’t look back. Rust is really the only thing that will kill these. Parts can be pricey but OEM is OEM imo.
Love the cloth, JDM import and RHD. Sweet 100 you found.
Not sure at what mileage people are looking for “collector” vehicles. Personally I like vehicles that are being driven regularly and well kept, mileage isn’t a big deal on a 2UZ.
I’m sure the price of this is steep, but remember rubber...
There was a post in not too long ago where someone had all their body rubbers replace, looked fine on the truck but once they pulled them off they were rock hard and smaller than the replacements. Rubber has a lifespan even with good climate it’s got 2,000lbs sitting on it.
I thought the same about my 4R until I found out I had to replace the whole LED tail light instead of a bulb 🤣
I test drove a 99, 04, 06. I dont rev enough to notice the VVTI, the 5 speed is a must for me. Unless I find a steal.
Before you even replace the valve cover gasket did you check to see if the bolts are tight? A few in the forums have posted before they just had to snug them up and the leak/weep went away.
Looks like a great 100, congrats!
Really, Not a gasket leaking? I’ve looked at cruisers with over 250k that had original OEMs without the crack and no lights. Hard to believe Toyota manifolds would die that fast. I think Toyota has a 1 year warranty as well on all their parts.
Other options are DTs that they rarely produce...
After reading the last thread, you have a USA 4.7, not the stock JDM. Same output, different assembly, feel free to search that.
Muffler looks like it has a large crack in it on the 3rd picture in your most recent post.
Scaling on the rear crossmember behind the bumper cover. How bad is the...
@ClassyJalopy just replaced a 2 year old OEM pump.
Started here, his didn't die while running though. He goes through a few other options you could check as well.

Haha! Yours and there’s another 99 LX that got restod in VA Beach are both clean. I’ve been holding out for 03-05 for 5 speed before the unicorn year prices. How are those 4 speeds on long highway drives? Also how’s dealing with lockers in the snow? I enjoy the ease of just putting my 4R in D...
Edit: After seeing the pics on my PC and not my phone it's not a southern LC. VA maybe. Something's up with the exhaust as well.
It's not bad but it will need love to prevent further decay.
I’d agree and I’m in the NE. Seeing the same 100s for sale across dealers and private party. Most are trying to hold their price steady though, not many lowered. There’s 2 I’d buy right now if they took about 2k off their listed prices.
