Builds Live in Texas, drive a pickup: HDJ79 single cab build

Where did you find the fuel switching solenoids/wiring harness? Think I finally found a front factory fuel tank. I had cobbled a 80 series tank in the front of mine bc the 75 series tank I had wouldn't fit. The sub tank I used was a 74 series tank. Fit just right and it was free.

I think your column missed bolting in by a year or two. IIRC that was the last year before the bodies changed. Once they did away with flat fenders the firewall where the steering column bolts in changed as well.

Builds Live in Texas, drive a pickup: HDJ79 single cab build

Hectic couple of days coming up but I will try and get a good photo of adapter plate. The column not lining up has to do with using an older column in a newer body. If you have a newer column (I think 2008 and up) it bolts right in. I used a 90s column an it was cocked to the passenger side by...

I remember they same thing on my build with the steering column. Back in the day when Proffits started selling these bodies/building the trucks....they made and adapter plate for the steering column that corrected the angle. I have one on my truck. Doubt they still sell them. If it would help...

    Builds Just another 79 build.....

Yeah I toyed with modifying the 80 box but figured it would be easier to buy the one that bolts in. Well I should have know that it wouldn’t just bolt in. I don’t think there has been one thing on my truck that was a “bolt in”. Thanks for the pics. I think there is a bottom bracket we must be...

    Builds Just another 79 build.....

My Scheelmanns are still sitting on the shelf in the shop :( Some day I will get around to putting them in the 79. I definitely hold the record for the length of time it took to build a 79. Mine has been collecting dust for years. Question about the mounting of the air clear base. Where...

    Recaro Seats

I’m not really bashing the stock seats...my truck just didn’t come with them. For the same or less money as oem seats Im upgrading to more comfortable aftermarket ones.

    Recaro Seats

I'm not sure why Toyota feels the rest of the world doesn't deserve all the JDM upgrades they get. I still want an 81 VX soley for the center console fridge/ice maker. Might be my favorite factory option ever. The seats in my 61 are the most comfortable factory Toyota seats I've ever sat in...

    Recaro Seats

I found a pair of Audi seats on that are semi local. I may go look at them next time I'm out that way see if they are comfortable and what's involved with the electronics. Definitely need to be able to wire to the motor directly. The only seats I like from the 70 series are the JDM 77 and the...

    Recaro Seats

The other thing I've looked at is Audi seats. Not sure about the newer models but I know the older ones were made by Recaro. They are all over the place on Ebay. They look nice but I really don't want leather and electric controls. Anyone have an A8. Those seats see like they'd be the best fit

    Recaro Seats

Yeah its between Recaro and Scheel Mann. Wish there was a dealer somewhat close to me so I could try before I buy. Will look up GMP even though there about 6 hours from me. Shipping might be cheaper from them.

    Builds The '93 Troopy Hodgepodge

On another note after reading your thread. If you go with the newer front end the ARB bumper thing is going to be a pain in the ass to procure. I've been trying to nab one for over a year. ARB has changed all its part numbers so I've been told by multiple online venders that they can't get it...

    Builds The '93 Troopy Hodgepodge

I have a diesel in mine. The injection pump is the lift pump. I have the factory switching valve somewhere in a pile of parts. Its a vsv if I remember correctly. So just a matter of mounting/plumbing/wiring. Would be nice to have a transfer pump though. With the gas engine in yours you'll have...

    Builds The '93 Troopy Hodgepodge

For the fuel tanks I used the stock 80 tank and found that a tank from a shorty 70 fit perfect where the spare tire normally would be on the 80 from. I've almost acquired all the factory sub tank parts to plumb it all up correctly but for now the main tank is fine.

    Recaro Seats

Actually I live on the coast of NC. Travel as much as I can in the off season. I try to make it to OZ regularly. Read some of your thread on the troopy project. Sounds like we have a similar project. I put 79 series on an 80 frame. Mine has been an ongoing back burner project for at least 5 yrs

    Recaro Seats

Thanks for the input guys. I have a jdm 61 as my dailt driver. The seats are pretty nice for 30 yrs old. Have searched for the old VW recaros but gave up bc I couldn't find a pair in good shape. Will give the Procars a look. Wish there was a local dealer. It'd be nice to stick the seat in the...

    Recaro Seats

Man, how many troopies are in the Portland /Bend area now? Seems like more everyday. What year is yours? Mine is a newer 79 so the pattern is going to be different than yours most likely. I have the older 70 rails that I made adapters/extensions for so they would work in my truck. I've...

    Recaro Seats

Looking at getting a pair of Recaro seats for my 79 series. I know I've seen a thread with a Troopy in OZ with recaros that bolted in with proper brackets. I've searched and searched but can't find it. Wondering what others thoughts are on which model recaro to go with or even a different...
