Belair Lexus is the place I would recommend. They have a mechanic there very familiar with Land Cruisers and LX's. Because this is Ottawa be aware these vehicles can develop significant chassis rust if they have driven in winter snow-salt here, with no rust protection. Good luck.
Wow, I didn't realize Hyundai made luxury cars! Maybe I should change my bias against Hyundai, but I think I would personally buy a Lexus any day over a Hyundai... To each his own I suppose...
Hard to believe someone traded in a LC100 for a Hyundai !?! But I suppose a Hyundai would be easier on gas, look good, and a lot cheaper to buy than a replacement LC...
I'm close to the US border so often will order parts from the States and get them shipped to Ogdensburg NY and just drive down to pick them up. Way cheaper than buying them from a Canadian supplier (prices seems to magically get jacked up 40-50% or more when they cross the border!). These days...
Yes, I would imagine that much of the mechanicals and electricals are similar between the 100 LC and LX, with some differences of course.
I would also imagine many of the engine parts would be similar to Tundra and 4Runners fitted with the 4.7L. Anyway, I hope I never have to muck around inside...
Thanks all. Someone on another (non-LC forum) was suggesting that parts may be hard to come by for these, which I seriously doubted but thought I'd check with this excellent group, and the answer is quite clear. Though indeed, some of the prices I see for some things (brake booster for ex)...
Thanks I didn't think so and just found this online store that seems to have just about anything one would ever need
http://www.toyomotorparts.com/section/toyota-1999-land-cruiser-parts-12038.html
I'm contemplating purchasing a 99 LC 100 and am wondering if parts availability is (or is expected to become) an issue on these vehicles. I would imagine that Toyota can provide all the parts necessary (at a price!), but are there also OEM third-party parts suppliers for the common wear and...
Sounds like the baseline you did yielded great results Greg, well done. I'll keep that in mind, if and when I acquire a 100 needing the same. Indeed, fuel filters sort of get neglected and it's a good idea to replace it once in a blue moon!
A guy I know was telling he experienced a 2-3 MPG...
Thanks Greg, indeed it's really a matter of baselining, and in doing so, figuring out what should be replaced as a matter or course given age and mileage, and otherwise just assessing condition of components as best I can, monitor and preventatively replace in due course. Glad your 2001 is...
Glad it's working out for you Chris, and that you found a good solid safe vehicle for you and your family. I much prefer buying used vehicles with service records, so the 95 and 99 I've recently looked at, neither of which have any service records and current owners not very knowledgeable (or...
Yeah, I suppose it was too simplistic to hope to come up with such a ballpark list of parts lifespan, and there are indeed many factors.
As was stated, these trucks were way overbuilt in most aspects for the kind of soccer mom / home depot dad usage they get in most cases in NA.
I suppose I was...
I've searched a lot and found bits and pieces of the answer here and there, but thought it would be useful to have some kind of list indicating, on average, how long key parts can be expected to last in a 100 series LC/LX. Assuming a caring owner who didn't skimp on service and preventative...
Some folks chimed in on a post of mine about a 99 I am looking at, that the rear AC never seems to blow nearly as cold as the front. Just one of those things I suppose.
I used to look into this cross-border buying years ago, since "the grass is always greener" and "southern US trucks are always less rusty". But I never went through with it. Somehow a southern US vehicle like I was looking for always popped up around me, so I benefitted from someone else...
Update: unfortunately there are no service records for this LC. The folders the seller had are in fact printed out copies of the FSM. It seems the PO was an engineer who did most of his own repairs on the truck, hence no shop service receipts.
I put a carboard under the drivetrain while we...
Thanks for confirmation on original paint color, and clarifying that it's normal for rear AC not to blow as cold as the front. This forum is always so helpful with information like that, I appreciate it.
You're no doubt right, Ponytl, and in your neck of the woods nicer, less worn LC's like...
Thanks for the thoughts and information ylexot. Looks like you've owned a few 60 series too!
I must admit the ride in this LC was pretty nice, considering it's a 200K miles vehicle.
Good to know about the rear air, I didn't realize it's a separate system from the front. I'll check out the temp...
