Nope on the prior starter repair, as the starter has never been pulled on this vehicle to my knowledge, she bought it with under 30K miles and has never touched it (I did a starter contact job on her ex-husband's '99)...
I would not think they would have burned much time with the "bad coil...
Seriously? Hmm...I wonder if the $545 was the complete bill, but still how much shop-time can a shop charge if they should be able to figure out the problem quickly, they have all the tools and are soposed experts with all this stuff...I continue my dislike of dealerships...
Update...sigh...just talked to my sister, the official diagnosis is a bad injector, and according to the dealership the injector "cannot be cleaned, so it will have to be replaced"...and the price for the new injector $545 and she will have the rental car till monday since the dealership had to...
About a week ago my stepdad started his Subaru and was driving to the main road and it was running horribly, would stall at times, had to keep it almost floored to keep it going, he finally popped the hood while it was doing it's lurching idle and saw sparks all over in the engine bay...turns...
This is not on one of my vehicles, but on my sister's '99 LC with ~89K miles, vehicle has been running/idling rough for the past few days and then a check engine light came on...code was cylinder 7 misfire...the most obvious culprit for this is the cyl 7 coil pack, and that is what I would have...
I also climbed into the engine bay, put 2-3 towels folded up on the engine so I could kneel on it, that worked very well, although while up in the engine bay it's a bit tight for a big guy such as myself, I managed to only semi-fall out of it once (was falling but got my feet down just in...
If no vibration then I would not turn the rotors. Most mechanics (and brake shops) will always turn them because they don't know what the status of the brakes were when the vehicle was brought in, maybe it vibrated and you forgot to tell them, or you didn't notice it, etc, easier for them to...
Christo, so the grease needs to go up along side the axle right? I agree it would be tough/impossible to do by hand/stick, etc...
Do you have to pull it any more apart than this? (pic from when I did my sister's front rotors) Basically it just needs grease pushed up along those splines...
Cool...thanks Christo...so could someone just take the hubnut off and the outer wheel bearing and then push in grease by hand in there? I'm trying to visualize it all...
So did you conclude that the axle was too loose in there and that was causing the vibration? Wouldn't a brass bushing be...
Excellent points...just for clarification this vehicle is in Ohio, not Colorado where I am, although in Ohio she typically gets FAR more snow than we do, even had to use her rear locker once to get out of her driveway.. :D
I was thinking about the tires and what a normal balance does for them...
Vehicle is my sister's, currently has 70K miles on it, at about 50K miles her front rotors were shot, I posted pictures of them at the time, rusted beyond belief, etc. So I put in new front rotors, new pads, new brake hardware, bled the brake system alot, put in atleast a quart of new fluid...
Dude, how many of "those crappy CV joints" have you seen fail? Can they fail, ofcourse, but unless the boot is ripped it's usually ~200K miles before they have any issues at all.
If your 100-series needs starter contacts then go get contacts in it...if you can open a can of...
I think the difference here is some people come to 100-series Land Cruisers from a 4wheeling background, and some come there from a luxury-vehicle background.
If coming from a 4wheeling background, then no matter what you own you WILL 4wheel it, not 'bash' it on the rocks perhaps, but you are...
As other have said, not sure what year vehicle you're dealing with but I know Drexx (popular dude on here with some sweet rigs) had some writeup on something like that...

I would say this totally depends on what's wrong with your starter. If it just needs contacts, like most do, then a few hours of wrenching and some printouts from here on mud will get the starter out and replacing the contacts is easy, so you're out about $30 in starter contact parts. If...
Good point John. In the US, like it or not, the market is driven by horsepower numbers and flashy gizmos. The V8 Cruiser is already way low on the horsepower numbers compared to the likes of Chevy/Ford, etc. Quality issues aside ("that's what you buy the warranty for" is the typical response...
Yes, it's exactly like adjusting brakes on a 40. :D
Actually seriously it just about is. If the 100's e-brake setup is like the 80's, which I think it is then the e-brake is merely a drum brake inside of a clever drum/rotor setup.
Two things can be adjusted, you can adjust the handle...
What exactly do you mean by this? I've never heard of it 'degrading', I know that at higher elevations the same engine requires a lower octane fuel, and gas stations offer lower grade fuel, which ones at sea-level do not. I have heard hearsay about this that it has to do with less oxygen at...
Hasn't Toyota's history always been to over-engineer something then under-power it. However, that 'under' powering it is undoubtedly what has helped Toyota's reliability and resale, every part isn't being maxed out from the factory. Perfect example a friend has a '00 jxxp grand chokie, from...
Actually the thread you really want is https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=9117 It's where the actual procedure/pics are for doing the job. Unless I missed something (and that's possible since I didn't really read it) the thread woody linked is just talk.. :D
