As MarkBC mentioned changing the inner C channels is a bear of a job. I can't imagine trying to do it with the body on. They are riveted in, and grinding the heads off the rivets isn't enough, as they're squished into the holes of both the C and the main frame. I just changed my C channels...
I’ve got one in my shop at the moment that’s got the same symptoms.
I installed an aftermarket coolant temp gauge. It tops out at about 195f on sustained hills.
I did the test for combustion gases in the coolant, and that came back negative.
I used a laser thermometer to check the rad and...
I know it’s really hard to see the back of the head, but could it be oil coming from the half moon plug thing at the back of the head, just below the valve cover? Then seeping down and travelling along the top edge of the block?
I use very thin zip discs/cutoff discs on an angle grinder. Mostly done from the outside. I make a line with a sharpie and take my time to follow the line for nice straight cuts.
My IP was pretty noisy, and quietened down considerably when I added a pusher pump back near the tank. I put in a Walbro.
My truck is pretty well twin to yours and I consider it a good performer. I'm running 15psi boost, I turned the star wheel thingy under the IP diaphragm back a couple...
Yes, when you had the idler off you should have seen four holes on the plate on the engine. The two middle ones are for the two bolts, while the other two have pins in them. The one to the right (when looking at the engine) goes through the hole in the idler assembly. That one I think would...
I happen to have a 1993 in the shop, so I popped the timing cover off to take a peek, and the pin is there. So is the pin on the other side of the idler assembly, which goes in a hole in the timing plate, and rests against the side of the idler assembly. When I do the timing belt on it I'll be...
I posted this in arnott1t's belt failure thread as well...
In my first 1HD-T, I got it from Japan at 115,000km, and it had a sticker indicating a belt change just before 100,000km. So I did it again just before 200,000km. When I was lining up the marks there was a couple paint pen dabs that...

As has been said already, oil in the intake and boost controller hose can be coming from the crankcase vent hose which vents into the intake pre-turbo. The quick way to see if this is where the oil is coming from is to run the crankcase vent to atmosphere with a longer length of hose, and block...
Its looking like a wet day down low, and a snowy one up high. The snow line was definitely below the ridge road today. I think I'm out for this year. Enjoy whatever adventure you guys get up to!
I should be able to make it. Likely playing catch-up as my boy has soccer that morning. I know the way, should catch up to the group just about in time for lunch ;)
This is why I won't do exhausts in anything but stainless. The steel stuff just doesn't last. And really the cost of doing full 304 stainless isn't really that much greater than steel.
