Working FJ62 midlife maintenance headliner, frame rails & suspension (SLEP)

As MarkBC mentioned changing the inner C channels is a bear of a job. I can't imagine trying to do it with the body on. They are riveted in, and grinding the heads off the rivets isn't enough, as they're squished into the holes of both the C and the main frame. I just changed my C channels...

1HDT Coolant into Overflow - What am I missing?

I’ve got one in my shop at the moment that’s got the same symptoms. I installed an aftermarket coolant temp gauge. It tops out at about 195f on sustained hills. I did the test for combustion gases in the coolant, and that came back negative. I used a laser thermometer to check the rad and...

    HZJ-T80 Headgasket leak ?

I know it’s really hard to see the back of the head, but could it be oil coming from the half moon plug thing at the back of the head, just below the valve cover? Then seeping down and travelling along the top edge of the block?

Cruisin Off Road M101 CDN Trailer Build

I use very thin zip discs/cutoff discs on an angle grinder. Mostly done from the outside. I make a line with a sharpie and take my time to follow the line for nice straight cuts.

I made some custom Snorkel Grill

Ooh! I like the TEQ one. I don't need it. But I really NEED that! I'm sure you all know exactly what I mean ;)

    1fz-fe (96) engine HG job

I've not done a 1FZ, so its not so much in my comfort zone. And as Norm mentioned it would be a while before I could get to it.

    1HD-T Head Gasket Job

Yes, I checked them against the spec listed in the FSM, and all were well within spec so I re-used them.

    For Sale 1HD-T Rebuild project

Sorry guys, haven’t updated this in a long while. Most of it is gone, but I’ll have a look tomorrow for the torque converter etc.

    Interior axe/shovel etc storage?

The threaded holes for the 3rd row grab handles are present in the HDJ81. The mounts for the seats and upper seatbelt mounts are not.

Builds Mail Order Ride - My HDJ81

My IP was pretty noisy, and quietened down considerably when I added a pusher pump back near the tank. I put in a Walbro. My truck is pretty well twin to yours and I consider it a good performer. I'm running 15psi boost, I turned the star wheel thingy under the IP diaphragm back a couple...

    Pin for Timing Belt Idler

Yes, when you had the idler off you should have seen four holes on the plate on the engine. The two middle ones are for the two bolts, while the other two have pins in them. The one to the right (when looking at the engine) goes through the hole in the idler assembly. That one I think would...

    Pin for Timing Belt Idler

I happen to have a 1993 in the shop, so I popped the timing cover off to take a peek, and the pin is there. So is the pin on the other side of the idler assembly, which goes in a hole in the timing plate, and rests against the side of the idler assembly. When I do the timing belt on it I'll be...

    HDJ81 Died

I posted this in arnott1t's belt failure thread as well... In my first 1HD-T, I got it from Japan at 115,000km, and it had a sticker indicating a belt change just before 100,000km. So I did it again just before 200,000km. When I was lining up the marks there was a couple paint pen dabs that...

81 is dead. I hate this thing.

In my first 1HD-T, I got it from Japan at 115,000km, and it had a sticker indicating a belt change just before 100,000km. So I did it again just before 200,000km. When I was lining up the marks there was a couple paint pen dabs that were in a weird place, like one tooth from the notch on the...

    Gturbo Rebuild

As has been said already, oil in the intake and boost controller hose can be coming from the crankcase vent hose which vents into the intake pre-turbo. The quick way to see if this is where the oil is coming from is to run the crankcase vent to atmosphere with a longer length of hose, and block...

OCTOBER 21 GARY'S ANNUAL FALL RUN UP MT. CHEAM, CHILLIWACK

Its looking like a wet day down low, and a snowy one up high. The snow line was definitely below the ridge road today. I think I'm out for this year. Enjoy whatever adventure you guys get up to!

OCTOBER 21 GARY'S ANNUAL FALL RUN UP MT. CHEAM, CHILLIWACK

I should be able to make it. Likely playing catch-up as my boy has soccer that morning. I know the way, should catch up to the group just about in time for lunch ;)

    Swing out hinge

I have a few. Made by Summit Machine in Utah. Very beefy, and runs tapered roller bearings (won't wear out like a bushing). $150.

    It's big, thick, and black!

This is why I won't do exhausts in anything but stainless. The steel stuff just doesn't last. And really the cost of doing full 304 stainless isn't really that much greater than steel.

    BEB replacement

Seems pretty typical from a few I've seen over the years. Good that you did them though, there's some sizeable chunks out of that #3.
