You've got the bar with a single mounting hole so if your bar is solid, I should be fine since I have the double mounting hole. I might also put a steel plate behind the mounting bolts. Thanks.
I bought a grab rail from SOR and am wondering if the dash steel is thick/strong enough to not bend when my wife and kids grab the bar to get into the truck. Installation seems incredibly simple. Any thoughts or advice (other than not to destroy my dash by installing the bar!)?
Switching out Mastercraft Courser 31x10.5x15 tires for new BFGs. The Mastercraft tires have a ton of tread and no visible dry rot. I'm switching then since the date code is 4004 which means the tires are over 16 years old. Being in Chicago, I don't get offroad very often and need dependable...
I had the common cigarette lighter problem and learned that the dome light, cigarette lighter and 12v socket in the glove box are on the same fuse and always hot. Easy fix once you get the cigarette lighter out of the dash.
I just checked and the Cooper Discoverers appear to be priced similar to the BFGs. Quality, road noise and appropriate appearance for an FJ40 are most important right now. Debating the finer points of tire selection on Mud is also a lot of fun. My wife has no interest in which tires I buy so...
Discount Tire quoted me $169/tire this morning. $835 total mounted and balanced including taxes. Costco has the same price.
I don't think opening a new credit card to get the additional discount is worth the hit to your credit rating.
Thanks everyone for the guidance. I think the BFG KO2s are the best choice. Tire Rack has them for $175/tire but they're out of stock until the end of March. I'll try Discount Tire which is at the end of my street. Let me know if you find any rebates.
Bought my '75 with tires (31x10.5x15) that have great tread and no dry rotting but according to the date code, they're 16 years old which makes me nervous. Since I'm in the Chicago suburbs, I need a tire that has good road characteristics that I can occasionally drive on dirt roads in...
What about making the cup deeper to accommodate a larger 16/24oz bottle without it tipping? None of us are taking corners very fast but a little more depth might add to the stability.
Just wanted to thank you for this tip. There was only 1 screw securing the plastic air duct from the blower motor to the heater unit below the dash. I had the cigarette lighter removed 10 seconds after removing the plastic duct. It was incredibly easy. I've now replaced the cigarette lighter...
I found your post through a search since I'm trying to remove/repair/replace my cigarette lighter. I know I need to remove the threaded collar on the backside of the dash but that's the problem. I removed the ashtray but can barely reach the back of the cigarette lighter and can't get enough...
You're absolutely right! My ports look nothing like that picture and are probably a significant vacuum loss. That vacuum loss would reduce airflow through the carb barrel, right? Thank you.
