Definitely interested in learning more! Especially if it means running new wire/components rather than disturbing old harness’ and have to chase damaged wiring to other components.
Have you also done headlight wiring updates? Replaced fuseable link mess with fender mounted buss-bar/fuse panel?
BK
At what point does it make sense to just completely re-wire these areas? I plan on doing headlight upgrade also along with eliminating the dangling fuseable links.

I’ve been following this thread in anticipation of doing serious work this winter in my ‘89 FJ62. A newb question: my windows operate properly but extremely slow-two need a bit of help to get them all the way up. I’ve replaced the track, wiper and door felt/rubber. Is running slowly primarily a...
Also-there’s a cluster of electrical wires and connector just hanging loose next to solenoid-one thing I’ve noticed about this vehicle design is much of the electrical is stupid-ground switches, fuseable limks hanging off battery post, etc. I’m sure most folks have modified in various ways. I’ll...
New to this truck and Toyota in general-is #5 cylinder counties ftom forward to rear? And where roughly would this plug be? Is it similar to a freeze plug? There are lots of hard lines going front to back-not sure if it’s rear seat heater, oil lines, trans cooler lines?
So I was about to do the “remote starter” method to check starter itself and decided I’d first just try “tapping” on the solenoid and starter body. I’ll also cycled the canal wire connection (it was pretty wet inside) and then tried to start-fired right up!! I’ve used the “hit it with a hammer”...
Hey
I’ve got a problem I could use some help trying to troubleshoot.
1989 FJ62 w/350k miles. Original motor w/auto. Normally starts and runs fine-losing a bit if oil somewhere in the front and on side near starter. Last week it started getting hard to start-turns over very slowly but then...
The current after market mirrors I have are non-electric and I have no desire to install electric-already spending too much time updating headlights/windows/door locks to add more!!! I’ll check out the 70 series. And I gave sources that might be able to print a gasket-great idea!!
Thx
BK
Curious about the 70 series mirrors-I have a '62 with what appears to be crap aftermarket mirror that shake and rattle. The truck has been in storage over the winter and when in the storage unit the other day I bumped one and it broke off at the swivel!! argh. I'm not looking for OEM but rather...
I need to do this!! Are there any other resources along with the schematic such as part numbers and such? What bulbs did you end up using?
And just so I understand how these wiring harness' interface: Does the harness use the OEM bulb plug as the "control" side of the relays that are direct...
I’m gathering parts in anticipation of cleaning up air intake, general tune-up and (hopefully) de-smog on my 1989 FJ62.
It looks like the air intake hose with the “bellows” has a tear in it. Is there an aftermarket hose that folks have found works? OEM appears difficult to find.
Charcoal...
FJ Silver-thanks for the ideas. I've blown air through the canister and it passes air. I'm going to do a de-smog in the next month and will most likely take the canister apart and see if it needs a clean-362K miles-I'm sure it does!
BK
I’ve read in a few posts that the excess vapors should travel up through a charcoal canister and then vent into intake manifold. But I’m not sure hence the post to see what is proper.
When I purchased this truck the plastic fuel vapor collector in the back was missing and the PO had taken all the vent lines and "t" them all together. One of the "t"s had an open end and of course fuel vapor vented into the interior. I've since purchased and installed the OEM plastic collector...
Just wanted to say a big "Thanks" to IH8Mud and all those willing to help.
georgebj60
sent me the front strut shown above and it works great and now the hood latch secures every time I close it and no more rattles!!
