Thanks for that. Went thru over the weekend and fixed the 180 out debacle — now I’ve got the plugs ordered correctly and after fixing the points in the dizzy it seems to be firing up great now.
Read thru a bunch of threads about dizzy not being properly seated and I guess I’m having that issue...
It was done in the US but I think they may have thrown an older dizzy on there, from what I can see it’s a 68-74 model. Purchased from someone who had done the refurb
What makes you think it’s 180 out?
I’m not entirely sure as I don’t have much info on the restoration of the vehicle but I’d say it’s not original based on the overall condition. Pictures attached
For the most part my 77 FJ40 fires up just fine but on ocasión I’ve been having issues with my distributor. Will run fine one second then if I turn it off and go in to fire it back up it won’t fire….
I’ve found that if I remove the dizzy cap and pull the rotor slightly out before replacing the...
New owner of a 77 FJ40 in the Charlotte area — doing some minor work myself but looking to learn as much as I can about the more technical maintenance. Anyone willing to teach me a few things? Currently working on some carb/timing adjustments and looking for a little advice
Ha! Yes exactly — but after a couple hours of late night digging I was able to find and old thread where someone had the same issue. Thanks guys! For your ref, mine was pretty jacked up compared to one that was good……
I’m sorry may be a dumb question but what do you mean by not engaging on the speed screw?
Just ordered the FSM for future reference, thanks for the suggestion
Yesterday I pulled out the timing light to adjust the timing on my 77 fj40 — got that squared away at 10 degrees advanced then proceeded to adjust my mixture/speed screws. While adjusting the mixture screw I took it a bit too low and the engine stalled, now I can’t get it back up and running...
Hey! I literally had the same thing just happen to me, picture below. Did you have to use any special tools to bend back in place? Terrified I’ll snap it — I know this thread is pretty old but if anyone still is willing to sell this part that’d be greatly appreciated!
I believe it got stuck...
Was working on adjusting my idle today and noticed my choke was stuck. Tugged in the linkage in the carb a bit and it released but after I noticed that my speed screw was now blocked by this metal bar that appears to be bent out of shape. Anyone know what I did by chance or how to repair?
Are these tops still being manufactured? Would love to purchase one for this spring/summer. Really want to avoid a Bestop at all costs — any leads would be greatly appreciated!!
Have a 77 fj40 that I’ve been doing a bit of work on. Just replaced the battery and overhauled the motor for the wipers (wipers were not working previously). At idle the wipers work great — 2 speeds, slow and fast. When driving I still have 2 speeds but now it’s just fast and extremely fast...
Doing some work on my wiper motor and the gear appears to be stripped. Does anyone know where I can find just a new gear? Everything else in the motor is in great shape, I flipped the gear and it’s working for now but I doubt it’ll last. it’s a 77 FJ40
Anyone know where I can find specific parts for the rear soft top ambulance doors? Specifically looking for the upper hinges and the weather stripping channel that mounts to the outside of the upper frames.
I’ve reached out to TROA and Relik garage but they’ve been unable to help so far — any...
Dang it, I knew I was missing something. That’s exactly what I’m looking for. I scoured sor and google to see if they anyone sold the channels but couldn’t find anything. Do you know anyone off hand that sells those? Thinking those and the stripping and I’ll be in good shape, can revisit the...
