5 Knuckle Jobs Later... Still Leaking

Reusing factory shims, whatever thickness they may be. If factory shims cannot be reused, then preload has to be measured to be in spec like any other knuckle using different thicknesses. IME, shims are for preload only, and there is no need to center the knuckle like one would on a standard...

5 Knuckle Jobs Later... Still Leaking

Just something easy to check off, you are pre greasing the seals? So they don't burn the first time you drive them before they can get lube. Also my 2cents, my rig is full-time and I never have had any issues with marlin seals. Mileages do vary though. All the 80 knuckles that have ever come...

Bump, price dropped to $120 shipped for the drag link and steering stabilizer. I did not specify, this is for an 80 series.

For Sale Socal: Marlin Crawler HD drag link and Old Man Emu steering stabilizer

For sale is the Drag link, one tie rod end is still good with a little surface rust, the other is bent. Both jam nuts included. The steering stabilizer has some rock rash but still dampens fine. I removed this off my truck to switch to a different style tire rod end. 200 OBO local pickup...

    3FE Owners Check-In

I'm familiar with the M-90, it's a great supercharger for a diy boost setup. I'm super interested for pics whenever you get the time.

Those alloys are a 7"W wheel. Shops like americas tire pull it up as a 6" in their system but it's not. Shouldn't be a problem.

    3FE Owners Check-In

I am bad at getting side profile pictures of regular ride height, but I can probably get some more after work. Note, 37s work great and fit well, but I wouldn't consider it a slap on deal.

    3FE Owners Check-In

Exactly. Imo, the benefit of a full float is rear discs, which is a marginal increase, and it's less catastrophic when you break a shaft offroading. Other than that no issues here with me yet on 37s

    3FE Owners Check-In

Who knows, maybe 10-15 years from now we will be able to buy everything as a repop for these like you can with willys jeeps and Broncos ;)

    3FE Owners Check-In

I haven't ran into anything that had failed that I couldn't find a replacement for yet. But I have some good used parts that I've had to install instead of new, and I've had to reuse parts that I would've rather replaced but they aren't made anymore.

    3FE Owners Check-In

I don't think it's unreasonable given the prices of any land cruiser nowadays. I bought mine at 180k and even though it was "low miles" I spent a solid 6 months dialing everything in. So be prepared for maintenance no matter what. Being 30+ year old trucks, some parts just go bad.

Rear diff pinion shot, need ideas

If you can find $300 ff axles let me know where please! To OP, all 80 series are 4.10 ratio from the factory so any non-locked 3rd is interchangeable. The factory ring and pinions are of very high quality so most of the time, just rebuilding with new bearings is enough, without the need to...

I'm just going to say it

If we had patrols here I would not be an 80 series owner. Great looking rig.

    Intro thread

Nice truck! I love my 3fe, once I got on top of updating everything that was worn out, it has never steered me wrong. And definitely invest in some sliders while the doors still close nicely, ask me how I know :hillbilly:

I'm just going to say it

I love my 80 and I'm always surprised at where I can get it to fit. But also, all my buddies with toyota pickups or 4runners with dual cases and longfields are running Johnson Valley Hammers trails that would turn an 80 into a crumpled beer can. The 80 series is awesome for 95% of wheeling...

HD tie rod and drag link recommendations?

The only difference would be the taper for the steering stabilizer is on the opposite side of the drag link end for RHD vs LHD As far as good kits go, I run the marlin HD steering kit, which I haven't bent the tubing or had come loose on me. I'm probably going to switch to the trail gear drag...

    Oil Leaks - 3FE

Had to go out and climb under my rig to take a picture, this cover is easily removed, use a flashlight and inspection mirror, or get fancy and use a bore scope, check for oil residue on the flex plate. Oil often pools on those bolts, being the lowest connected part to the oil pan, so people...
