    Bumperette covers

Thanks @devo I was hoping someone would post pics of what they've done, that looks pretty darn good.

    Bumperette covers

Don't like loading my clumsy lab in and out of the rig because I'm afraid he's going to catch his leg in the bumperette. I've seen a couple of trucks that have some sort of mesh welded across the top of the voids - are there any off-the-shelf solutions out there or am I going to have to have...

SOLD Land Cruiser Heritage Museum collection 1980 FJ40

My son and I attended cruiser fest a few weeks ago and saw this truck in person, there was just something very appealing about it - would have looked perfectly at home in the exhibit hall!

Need help with turn signal wiring.

There are bulbs that look like an 1156 and have the same bayonet mount but have different wattage and may or may not have markings to indicate what they are. That was our issue, sounds like it was yours too. Measuring the resistance of the bulb is a good way to estimate bulb wattage if you don't...

Need help with turn signal wiring.

NP. I guess technically it is about how much current the bulbs draw, but that isn't very helpful when you have a few unmarked bulbs in your hand. Glad it is working for now.

Need help with turn signal wiring.

Yeah in our case the aftermarket bulb measured ~3 ohms resistance, the OEM bulb that worked was .5 ohms

Need help with turn signal wiring.

Sure, and I should say I'm not an expert on this stuff, I just had the same issue and was weighing in with what solved my problem. As far as narrowing it down to bulb resistance: You said it blinks once or twice which to me rules out it being the turn switch. You said it blinks when the...

Need help with turn signal wiring.

When I was working through multiple issues with rear lights I ran into this issue too. The problem ended up being the bulbs. I had purchased aftermarket bulbs that fit physically but were the wrong resistance value. The relay that causes your lights to blink will stick if the resistance is too...

Man I need a better timing light.

TIming Advance - How much is too much?

Came back to this over the weekend with fresh eyes. Son and I practiced adjusting the valves on the spare 2F, then gave it a go on the real one. There were three valves out of spec, but just barely. We reset those, checked, checked and re-checked our work before putting the cover back on...

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Replaced shocks. Going over 50 MPH is no longer an adventure. This one was my favorite:

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

1978 FJ40. Corroded connector at the pump motor below the reservoir. CLeaned and shot both sides with contact cleaner and it worked again.

What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week?

Fixed the last non-working electrical system - we have wiper fluid now.

TIming Advance - How much is too much?

Yes, we are doing this as we go too. Advance a bit, idle increases, go adjust the idle/mix on the carb again. I haven't done this for many many years and back then it was a chevy luv so 0 experience with this car - learning as we go along.

TIming Advance - How much is too much?

Thanks Skreddy & Green Been. I Checked the distributor this morning and the rotor is pointing in the right direction at TDC. Checked timing with the advance line plugged. With the BB on the needle, it sputters badly when transitioning from idle, and has no power at low RPM. Advanced it to the...

TIming Advance - How much is too much?

I am not. I was doing that at first, but I didn't notice any advance at idle - only when revving the engine up - so I stopped. Sounds like that is bad form, I'll go back to plugging it while I'm tinkering today.

TIming Advance - How much is too much?

Thanks for this, I think I'd come across it and forgotten about it already! We are learning as we go and taking in a lot of information. We'll check the position this afternoon and go from there.

TIming Advance - How much is too much?

I have a late (December) 1978 FJ40, I've had it since May. PO had desmogged and installed a Weber 38 carb with an electric choke and no cut-off solenoid. It always started and ran reliably - but it also ran rich. The manifold would get extremely hot and there was a smell of gas when it got hot...

1978 FJ40 Brakes to floor question (search high and low for other posts)

I had a similar issue that was resolved by adjusting the rear brakes per pinhead's instructions. I was experiencing an issue with the pedal occasionally / intermittently (maybe once per short drive) going almost to the floor with reduced braking ability. When this happened, the brake sensor...

    Sky Blue 1978

Thanks! A couple of the mods were pretty cool so we decided to keep them. Apparently, they would quarter an elk and stuff it in the back for the drive home - that caused the rear windows to fog up pretty bad so they installed a fan on the rollbar in the back - it circulates the air pretty well...
