The rust is bad…. really really bad….
Well, my home remodel project is done for a few weeks, I still have a kitchen backsplash to do, but it can wait. Metal work is more fun than housework. I did do some work on the frame, but that can wait until another update. For now, I was sick of only...
2” Heavy/heavy Ome lift. Without anything heavy in the truck. Is more like 3”. I figure when I add the winch bumper and tire carrier it will settle out a bit.
Yep, 315’s, stock gears. Drives fine. I don’t off road much so ok so far.

Just realized I never posted the final result. Here it is from a a few months back. Using a small roller, I rolled in raptor liner a few inches up the door. It hen hosed the whole thing down with fluid film inside and out.
I did some similar work on my 80, posted it in the what did you do this weekend thread. If you check my posts you can see some of the work there.
Rocker work
Take a look at where your seat belt bolts in. You may be in for a surprise. If so fix that too! I think only one side was bad in mine...
Need a favor,
Can someone with actual sheet metal here (front of rear wheel well arch) post or send a few photos so I can reference it when I re construct it? The other side is not much better.
Even better would be with a few measurements.
What would be even more amazing is if someone has...
Yeah… we may just be racing… although with all my rust issues. And a house I still have to remodel. I’m sure you will win. Either way. Super cool to see another body off LS swap going here.
Here is where I finished off today. Made a stand for the body that the frame can roll under to save...
That’s super nice! I have some interestingness with my next post, I will be cutting out 3/4 of the inner c-channel and welding in new metal to make it all work. Also using a pressure washer sand blaster to clean up the frame.
Just lifted it super high, had a buddy lift the back. Then pushed the picker all the way over to the other side of the garage. Then I wheeled the frame out and put the body on jack stands. At least for now.
I built a 6.0 for this truck 2 winters back
It’s actually. 6.1 now with a sloppy stage 2 cam, went way overboard on the build. Forged pistons and rods, the works. Imagine that right? Also have a nv4500 for the transmission
Some cylinder photos. Some scoring, also some cross hatch. Ran great until I pulled it apart. Was going to save it for a 40 project, it that is too far away.
I have a good running and shifting 2F motor and 4 speed out of a 84, fj60. Motor has 200k in it and other than the normal leaks is pretty clean.
This is only the motor and transmission. Transfer case is not for sale, I still need that for the motor swap.
This was de smogged by a previous...
Body is off, Motor Transmission, and T case are out, the fun continues.
Pretty easy removing the body this way, needed a neighbor to lift up the back end, and then just lifted the body up and over, and off the frame. The only thing that was forgotten was the speedo cable.
Today I spent...
The Body - the spiral continues
After taking a close look at the frame, it looks terrible, but salvageable… with that the body must come off, and the frame will need to be sandblasted. This will also make it much easier to solve the rust issues on the body. Body removals have been covered...
Drip Edge - Rust Never Sleeps
With the roof off the drip edges needed to come off next. The roof is spot welded to the drip rail, and the drip rails are spot welded to the body. As you can see from the photos in the roof post, there is a ton of rust. It was barely noticeable from the outside...
