Builds The Adventure begins: Building an Arkana FJ45 Troopy three door.

That's a tight fit! Presume you used the original transfer box? What about the cross member? Followed a few threads on the 5 speed conversion but still a little confused

    75/78 Troopy roof conversion options

Looks like lots of choice, so I will add a link to ORB as they offer 3 different roof height options Off Road Böhlen ORB I dont know the company but like the look of the product. I will be interested to see what you ultimately go for as I am seriously tempted to do something similar

Very nice, like the open cab hot rod look and I guess a big V8 and supercharger would set it off a treat... On further consideration I think I prefer the original truck, especially that high roof

    75/78 Troopy roof conversion options

8,500 euros for the PSP roof looks a good price, nicely done by the looks of it and a little cheaper than Alucab. Wonder how it compares for usability and strength? Most others are more expensive that I have seen. There is also Alcar in France and ORB in Switzerland...

Swivel seats - has anyone tried to install them?

I fitted one in a panel van once. It raised the seat height a little, the seat hits the door as it swivels so you need to open and close the door as you go round. Never use it The narrowness of the Troopy might be an issue. You could always try making a ply base to spin your new seats on before...

5 speed into a Troopy questions

I think that is what confused me. The first 1982 I looked at had the transmission handbrake when i thought I had read this went out after '81. If all long wheelbase had this then i know what to expect. I am still looking to buy a BJ45 at the moment. The problem has been that it must be...

5 speed into a Troopy questions

In Europe we got the 45 long wheelbase with the 3B 4 cyl diesel, hence BJ45. Not sure if you got that version in OZ

5 speed into a Troopy questions

I seem to recall that 1981 was a change year, possibly when the e.brake was moved to the rear axle though both the 82 Troopy wagons I saw still had this old set up or maybe Toyota were using up old parts stock. I hope by taking the h55 from a 3b engined truck it will be an easy fit...

5 speed into a Troopy questions

I have been reading up on fitting a five speed gearbox into the BJ45 Troopy for a while but think I have confused myself. It seems to be straight forward in the late vehicles, 1984 or so but the earlier ones I have seen from around 1982 still have the gearbox parking brake and I recall reading...

    Spring time, BJ73 leaf wear

As I have to take the springs out anyway to do the bushes I thought I would price up new ones just in case Has anyone used springs from the Australian company PEDDERS? Not big in the 4x4 world but they do some reasonable priced springs. Otherwise OME look favourite and are easy to get

    Spring time, BJ73 leaf wear

Those are pretty crusty, what brand of springs did you replace them with?

    Spring time, BJ73 leaf wear

Spring bushes were noted on the annual inspection but while underneath a good look at the springs revealed some issues. The ride is good and the height OK with nothing sagging but should I be concerned with the amount of wear on these leaves?

The Fate of Diesel in the USA?

Lots of hype over diesels in Europe and plenty of political mileage being made out of it all. Perhaps it aint over yet as Mercedes are making a fanfare about their new diesels in europe. I can't coment on the US but it depends how much the legislators get wrapped up in the hysteria. I have seen...

Builds 1982 Desert Troopy - Glutton for Punishment

I learnt to weld using scaps of galvanised metal and remember it being difficult to get perfectly clean for welding edges. When I finished that vehicle we sandblasted the whole body and hot zinc sprayed both body and chassis. Etch primed before paint and as far as I know it is still pretty good...

Looking good! Nice floor, did you heat up and flatten the back edge? I hate welding galvanised myself but this should last for ever now

What did you do on your 70 series today?

I bought my BJ73 a sticker today to celebrate its 30th birthday and surviving a wildfire last august

Thanks. I have found a couple of 40 tops but no 45s. Puts me off this truck somewhat

    BJ45 Troopy roof question

Hi. I am thinking of getting a BJ45 Troopy for camping trips as the 73 is a little lacking on inside space. The wife has even given some sort of approval by commenting that at least it will be more useful than the stuff I usually buy... They are a little thin on the ground at the moment but one...

Lucky LandCruiser, fire passes by my BJ73

The whole side will need a repaint as its blistered. Not sure about the rear tyre, looks fine but heat damaged the mudflap and and melted some plastic chassis blanking caps behind
