FJ40 Help Identify Dash Pull Knobs

If you say the PO changed from a 2f to f, would they have needed to install a manual choke? Did the 2f have an automatic choke originally? That and a hand throttle are about the only two reasons you would have cables run to a carby?

    '72 FJ40 t-case scary situation...need help.

Yes definitely do not let it fall out. It only needs to move enough to fall out of the case on the other side then the gear will drop on an angle and wear/punch through the bottom of the housing and then you will have to get the hole welded up. Don't ask me how I know this.......

Weak spark while starter is engaged

I had the same issue with my suzuki sierra. It would only want to start when letting the key off. Turned out it was the coil failing it did not have enough grunt to run the car with the lower voltage while cranking. A way to test this (and also a cheap temporary fix) is to run a wire from the...

Metal fan alternative for the F engine

My 64 metal fan had nearly cracked all the way through at the bottom of the blade. You could not tell. It was not bent or twisted. I was lucky to spot it when i had the water pump off. My old man had one fail on a truck in the 70s and he said you could fit a 4 liter oil bottle through the hole...

    Alternator Help Please

F would be for field wiring. This would normally have a varying voltage on it that is controlled by the voltage regulator. If the full battery voltage was applied to this wire with the engine running, then the alternator would have been pumping out maximum voltage and current. Possibly.

    2b conversion oppurtunity

I have a 1979 B engine and lets just say speed is not its friend. Nor is acceleration. Its happy up to 80kph but after that the wind noise/ engine noise takes over. It will happily do 100kph and i have even had it up to 120kph down hill with a tail wind. Its like a little tractor at low speed...

    Loose steering

Following closely as my 79 bj40 is all over the road as well. All of my steering components seem in good condition. One thing that has had a great affect is adjusting my toe in. I have been slowly winding it in and then test driving and the wander has been improving each time.
