What year? Early 343 had some issues.

Mine started slipping under heavy load inreverse only around 275k miles but was more of a squeal noise.
Doesn’t sound like it’s the same noise.

FWIW, I've been using Amsoil ATF in both the A440F and A343F for the last 30 or so years. I do a passive drain/refill about every year or so, and the fluid is always bright red. Never had any issues with either transmission, with the exception of the reversesqueal on the 343 when backing up a...
Universal joints are prone to a squeak or squeal when inreverse, this is not just an 80 issue, it is common on many RWD cars as well as 4WD.
Worth greasing at least, but if they have been run dry then they are well on the way out anyway, they are a DIY repair job.

x2.
As alluded to a few times in this thread, this reversesqueal reportedly happens with some era 80 transmissions. My 97 has loudly squealed inreverse on moderately steep uphills in Hi range/CDL off/all brakes off at least twice. I would go through the search links jonheld provided. Cheers.
I did a full Rodney flush on mine and it fixed this problem. Before that I would put it in 4lo to reverse out of a rut or up a hill. Otherwise it would squeal and sound horrible.
Read the threads in the links, been discussed many times over the past 15 years.
IME a complete fluid exchange may help, particularly if any additives have been added to the ATF to try to to fix the issue or if the wrong ATF had been added. The Transgo kit has apparently helped some people (from...
No video attached.
Was the parking brake on?
Was it in low range on the transfer case?
Do you have a separate CDL switch?
There are a few threads about an inherent squeal on some of these.
Check your transmission fluid when warm, in park, on a level surface. Warm equals a MINIMUM drive of...
I’ve got a 91 cruiser and just noticed a loud screeching when I’m reversing, the kicker is when I am still rolling backwards in neutral the sound goes away. And it doesn’t matter if I’m on the brakes or off. Any ideas? I also wouldn’t be surprised if it is the rear brakes but it just doesn’t...
The transfer case shifter is bolted to the top of the transmission housing. When power braking in either forward or reverse, you will always have some movement, as the engine/transmission/transfer case is on semi-flexible mounts.
The A343F is also known to occasionally have a "squealing" sound...
Thanks. I had searched for grinding inreverse and didn't come up with some of these.
Sounds like my issue. I wasn't paying attention to timing but since I was working my way out of snow I suspect I was shifting in and out of reverse rather quickly and not pausing. Will have to look into the...
So this Tractor must have a pig stuck under the LC. All maintenance items up to date. This is after driving with an improperly installed propeller shaft. So after warm up, inReverse (the loudest) there is a constant high pitched longish chirp. Shifting from Reverse to Drive it makes a whoop...
If you do a search on "reverse squeal" you get a page and a half worth of threads regarding this issue, including the one that I started a couple of years ago.

Not necessarily.
The reversesqueal is well documented on the A343F transmission.
There is a pressure adjustment if you drop the pan. There are several really good threads on this.
