    1HDT will not start

1hdt is 12 volt. It'll be something simple - are the battery terminals tight? Is the lead to the starter solenoid tight? Were the starter solenoid contacts cleaned up or replaced? Thee isn't much else in there.

    Starter noise/clunk

Did anyone figure out what the solution was? I had my 97 for 5 yrs before it started doing this. Only started after my key broke and had to put a new ignition cylinder in. I know this is a 15 yr old post but if anyone has successfully fixed this issue, plz lmk. Thanx

    Wife's '91 LC80

Any heating issues with that Atoto head unit? I wrote the company asking why they put off so much heat, the acceptable range according to them is up to 60 c. Hope to see you out on the trail, we did the Enumclaw to Easton old highway trail in my Tacoma, I’m really looking forward to doing it in...

3FE stalled out after shifting into R, now cranks but won't start even with jumpers

...originally had my alternator replaced, then a battery or two changed out, spark plugs swapped, even entertained changing out the starter contacts and plunger. I eventually changed the fusible link and EFI relay, but in all cases before this I would be getting no crank at all and it often...

Emergency Troubleshooting Procedures - FAQ Item (Recommend Keeping Copy in Truck)

From Tricky's comment above please confirm: Socket is the wiring harness and the #3 is the upper right in the photo. Run a wire from that female to the +12v battery terminal, correct? Connect the male terminal on the relay to the ohm meter, correct? #3 would be upper left in the picture...

1995 Landcruiser won't start. It makes a quick clicking noise. It might be a loose wire

Thanks. I'll have my mechanic look at the wiring and have him replace the starter if that is necessary. Brown wire Yes, the brown wire is not connected to anything. The only non-repair modification that I had done was to install a Clifford alarm/immobilizer 20 years ago when I bought the TLC...

1995 Landcruiser won't start. It makes a quick clicking noise. It might be a loose wire

Fast clicking at the starter means the solenoid on the starter is not fully engaging, and is repeatedly trying to engage. Either not enough current getting to the starter. Due to bad battery, bad cabling, bad connections etc. Or, contacts inside the solenoid are worn out, and not making a...

1995 Landcruiser won't start. It makes a quick clicking noise. It might be a loose wire

Thanks! Replacing the starter has always worked in the past. I'll probably tow it to my mechanic, give him the spare starter that I drive around with, and hope it starts or that he knows what the extra wires are for. What is a FSM?

1995 Landcruiser won't start. It makes a quick clicking noise. It might be a loose wire

Your pictures show some (hacked in) add on wiring. Not factory. And with 99% confidence I will say, that has nothing to do with your starter. Sounds like starter solenoid or dirty battery contacts not allowing sufficient amerage to pass through. At least as a first guess from what you...

    Wife's '91 LC80

Been on here for a few months now, and thought Id throw up a little thread about my wife's '91 LC80. This is really just to keep track of progress and share a bit of what I'm doing. We got this thing Sep. 2023 after the wife's '04 Mini Cooper S s*** the bed. It had a bad water pump leak, and...

    Click but no start!

Many times and have replaced the battery 2 times - not a battery charge issue. I believe it is either one or a combination of 1. not enough voltage getting to the starter (deteriorated wiring between battery and + on starter); 2. the starter solenoid intermittently going bad; 3. the ignition...

    Check engine light not working

If the EFI relay was faulty, this engine wouldn't run at all (no power to fuel pump/sensors/etc). Without the CEL with the key in the ON position before cranking the starter, this engine wouldn't run at all. There's something else going on here. Is the 10 amp GAUGE fuse intact? If the OP can't...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Finally had a little time to do some preventative maintenance. Starter was occasionally not cranking so I went in and replaced the contacts and plunger. And I’m getting a case of the while I’m in there. New fuel filter installed. This one didn’t look too bad inside. A lot of the mess you can see...

    starting problem...slow electricity

Have you tried a different battery? Batteries will have 12.7 ish volts at times and no real amperage... I've had it happen with even new batteries. Also, could have a bad power cable to your starter, the pause may be a build in resistance causing the cable to heat and expand finally making...

    starting problem...slow electricity

No such thing as "slow electricity" for the record. Delayed cranking is almost always associated with the starter solenoid. The bore of the solenoid is supposed to be clean and have some lightweight grease. Over time dirt builds up in the bore and the grease breaks down which prevents the...

No Start, Single Click, All Power goes out (with references)- Solved

I would look harder and closer at the negative battery connection. A LOT closer and harder. Closer than that. Do it again. Damn it, not like that. LOOK CLOSE! Dollars to doughnuts that is where your problem is. Just because it will pass 12 volts at zero load, does not mean that it will pass...

No Start, Single Click, All Power goes out (with references)- Solved

These symptoms point to a bad connection somewhere. Just because you have good continuity with an ohmmeter or continuity checker does not mean the circuit can handle the high current of the starter. To determine if the problem is on the ground side or the power side, I would suggest using half...

No Start, Single Click, All Power goes out (with references)- Solved

Those are certainly words, but they don't make sense to me. The starter has a direct connection to the positive battery terminal. That is the one under the rubber insulating hood with a copper nut. The smaller push on connector is the logic side of the starter from the starter circuit. If you...
