    Intermittent Starting Problems

This is quite hilarious, I was JUST reading a thread from 2009 that you were talking about this. This is the thread. Im a nooby to working on my own vehicle and don't know much. I wouldn't say its a "thunk," its more like a quite "ticking" sound. Im going to go test power at the starter here in...

    Intermittent Starting Problems

...to start, do you get a solid "thunk" sound from the starter? If no sound at all, then there is an interruption of the starter logic path. If you get a solid "thunk" then the starter solenoid is pulling in and you have an issue with the starter contacts or the +12 to the starter from the battery.

    Intermittent Starting Problems

Lovely... lol I Posted pics go the grounds I could find inside the engine bay. They weren't loose or anything. But im stilll going to take them off and then clean them up a bit to be safe. Any idea where the one by the trans is? Not in the time span that the problem had started. I had found...

    Intermittent Starting Problems

The very first thing you should do when the starter doesn't work is to smack it on the end with a hammer or wrench. You don't have to hit it hard. I believe that the contacts weren't seated properly in my rebuilt Denso starter. I had *very* intermittent no-starts. Replacing the contacts (and...

Where can I get a decent starter?

Awesome! I have a paper FSM and one online so I’ll make sure to follow it. Doesn’t seem too hard. I just replaced my brake booster and I was pretty nervous about doing that. But went really good and didn’t disconnect the brake lines. Also did the throttle cable while I was in there. I’m not very...

Where can I get a decent starter?

No problem. When I first needed a replacement starter, I selected the 1.4 and had to cancel my order the next morning when I realized what I'd done. May have been a drinking-while-browsing incident. Incidentally, my Denso starter would occasionally not spin and needed a light tap with a...

Where can I get a decent starter?

Well when I went to go start my Lc I could hear the gears grinding in starter, don’t think that would fix it…? Never rebuilt one or know how to. what’s the difference between the three? Wait, never mind. I think I misunderstood this post.

Need some advice -- may have overheated engine

...clutch, fuel filter, oil pump, timing chain and gears, idler pulley bearing, all the trans and transfer case seals and gaskets plus trans filter. I should have just done the injectors then, but I waited another 100K before I upgraded them...... Oh and new starter contacts and alternator brushes.

    Starter question

The solenoid section for the 2.0kW starter is still available from Toyota as a separate part or you can purchase a "rebuild kit" for about the same cost. However, that kit is basically just the contacts and plunger, no bearings for the OSGR section or for the armature, and no brushes either...

FZJ80 Starter Kill Switch Kit pre-order available - HuddExpo

Places like Ballenger Motorsports carry OEM connector kits for way less than Toyota parts. Using OEM part numbers you can pick out connectors with the correct number of contacts for your application. Milspecwiring.com has very similar OEM Toyota wire colors that can magically disappear into an...

What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Yes, all the current flows through the ignition switch and the Park/Neutral position switch before engaging the starter solenoid. This is why some 80s with fairly new starters or solenoid contacts still experience the solenoid click with no crank.

    FJ80, a good buy in today's market?

...the engine stay happy. Starting-are all the right pieces in place and not worn out (air filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, starter contacts). Stop, suck, bang, blow. The circle of life….for a land cruiser. We all figured you would get the Xterra (me anyway) and come back on the forum...

    FZJ80 intermittent no start/no crank

Hey thanks, sounds like the same thing as what I've got. I did actually search, guess I didn't use the right words. I'm an IT monkey so you'd think I'd be better at Googling.
