    DS lock mechanism spring

Thanks for the help. I was able to find one at the local Ace that I could clip shorter and bend a hook in to match pretty well. Lock mechanism is working great now!

    DS lock mechanism spring

OK, so the DS door recently stuck locked and shut. Could not open from inside or outside, even while pulling up on the lock post. We removed the door card and fiddled with it to finally get it open. it looks like a spring is broken. This weekend we will remove the lock mechanism and replace the...

    FJ62 “Carb” Cooling Fan

I'm glad others are wondering the same thing. We had our Dome Light ("Doom Light" per the FSM :) )fuse blow on a regular basis, so I disconnected the carb cooling fan. That solved the fuse problem. So far it hasn't seemed to matter even in Texas heat. Actually I never confirmed that it was...

Randomly died twice - need advice

I found that I could get a gauge and a M8-1.0 adapter from this set - OEMTOOLS 27167 The parts are 27167M and 27167A shipped for $43. the whole set can be had for $70 plus shipping but I don't need a multimeter or some of the other adapters...

Randomly died twice - need advice

Thanks for the advice. Of course it has run like a champ since I posted. I looked in the FSM and it seems that to check the fuel pressure regulator you set up a fuel pressure gage with a banjo fitting. Is it a 10mm banjo fitting? like this: Amazon.com : banjo to barb -...

Randomly died twice - need advice

our 1988 FJ62 has randomly died twice in the last couple of weeks. Both times while driving and warmed up. No warning, just shut down. Engine will then turn over but not start. The first time I dragged it back to the house and the next day it started right up like nothing happened. Ran fine for...

88 FJ62 3FE hard start especially when hot

Just to close this thread out: Last week it died on my son while driving. All indications were a fuel issue - it would turn over but not start. Towed it back to the shop that put the new fuel pump in a couple months ago. Turns out a short piece of fuel line that goes from the pump to the hard...

    FJ62 Water Temperature Sensor

Thanks. I ordered the connector from KSV looms, will it connect to the existing sensor? I have checked the resistance of the sensor and it seems to be within spec per the FSM. Or do I need to order the new sensor so that it will match that connection? We have had previous issues with rough idle...

    FJ62 Water Temperature Sensor

here's a pic. I realize that the single pin spade connect isn't connected in this picture.

    FJ62 Water Temperature Sensor

I think that's the one. It's definitely the 2 pin sensor, and of course the hardest to access since it is below the other two. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. thanks!

    FJ62 Water Temperature Sensor

is it possible to get just the wire connector without the sensor? My sensor seems ok when I checked with an meter, but seems to sometimes get a bad connection. The housing of the plug/pigtail is in pretty bad shape. I'd like to replace it. TIA...

88 FJ62 3FE hard start especially when hot

Plugs replaced recently (within a couple of months) and gapped correctly TPS was checked within a year - is there a way to do this while it is "hot"? I had to remove the TB to check/adjust it last time. difficult to do when hot. fuel filter is new, was replaced when the fuel pump was replaced...

88 FJ62 3FE hard start especially when hot

OK I could use a little help from the MUD braintrust. About two months ago the fuel pump died. Since I was going out of town I took it to Javier's here in Houston for replacement of the pump. They also replaced the fuel filter. Now there are a couple of new things going on. 1. it's noisy. I can...

What did you do with your 60 this weekend?

I think I have finally fixed the CEL/cold start/poor idle issues with the 3FE we have had over the last couple of weeks. Order of operations: - replaced O2 sensors, no significant change - inspected distributer - nothing significant - cleaned throttle body and tested/adjusted TPS - minor...

rough idle after some mud fun

So in case anyone wondered how this went - we spent a little time driving it right around 1500 RPM and the "blip" would happen repeatedly. We looked for loose connections and cleaned up a few random wire plugs and generally stared into the engine bay a lot. Things got worse. Idle went down to...

rough idle after some mud fun

Replaced both O2 sensors. Idle improved significantly. It's hard to know if it is the same as before, now I am focusing on it more than before. Now we have a new and interesting symptom - it will briefly (fraction of a second) lose power as you gently accelerate. It occurs at about 1500 rpm...

rough idle after some mud fun

Things looked ok to my uneducated eye inside the distributer cap. Disconnecting the one O2 sensor with the wires up over the transmission was so difficult we ended up removing that exhaust pipe between the manifold and the catalytic converter. At that point we decided to go ahead and replace...

rough idle after some mud fun

So we've had our FJ62 a little over a year and my son has been dying to get it on some mud. He finally got an opportunity and certainly put it in some soup. OK, no biggie, I was a teenager once too... . After initial cleaning there was some noise up front so I had him clean up the pulleys and...

    88 FJ62 Key question

so we've had this FJ62 for about a year now, and only one set of keys. So I searched on here about key blanks, etc. and discovered that others have only one key for doors and ignition? Ours came with two keys, and they don't match. One fits the doors and one fits the ignition. I seem to recall...
