John Cadogan (Aussie YouTuber) 300 Series Review

Unpopular opinion here, particularly since I just happen to own a Toyota but am not a diehard toyota fanboi like most pople on this site.... Amyway, I feel as though if you cut through all of the bombast and fluff, Cadogan does make some excellent points in there. The excellent points I noted...

1KZTE - mysterious jingling knocking sound and check engine

Step 1 is really to read your code and see what code it is. In my case, it was code 14, which meant my timing was off, which was being made worse at high temperatures. Once the pump and crankshaft sensors read more than 7 degrees difference it would throw the check engine light which would put...

    Brake Parts

Re the slots collecting mud, i actually bought it BECAUSE i had issues with my regular "flat" rotors of little pebbles and stones etc getting caught between the pad and rotor, so I figured the slots would help to clear the pad face. I've had good luck with slotted Brembos as well on my Honda, so...

1KZTE - mysterious jingling knocking sound and check engine

Video is dead, and OP doesnt give info, but honestly the description sounds like diesel fuel knock to me. The CEL woul throw a code if it senses the timing or readings to be off, which is a temporary limp mode. I have had similar symtoms which persisted until I adjusted the pump properly. Even...

    Brake Parts

On my 3rd gen, I use the EBC USR Slotted rotors. Have them on a few years now and they haven't warped or anything, which is good considering 4runner rotors not the strongest generally. Re pads, currently using genuine toyota but considering stop-tech or EBC for my next set

Question on center lockers and rear lockers

All you do is add the rear locker to your existing diff. Everything else stays. Centre diff is integral to how the awd/4wd system on that vehicle works, so that would remain as is. You can also consider adding one of the factory rear e-lockers if you can find it.

Any 1KZ guys care to chime in? Thanks

1KZ-TE 4lbs vaccum at idle?? Is this normal? 2000 Surf

Hi everyone, From my understanding, the 1kz-te uses an electronic throttle plate/butterfly, and this also controls the EGR system. When I first installed my boost gauge a few years ago, it would read about 1 or 2 lbs vac at idle (plumbed into the boost/vac damper). I did extensive engine work...

Alternatives to Red OEM Long Life Coolant? Prestone Command

Never in my life have I ever been able to get coolant to go 150,000 km or whatever they claim in any used vehicle I've owned. Somewhere along the way i'll have to change a hose, water, pump, radiator, something that'll cause me to end up changing the coolant along the way. In a new car (like...

Alternatives to Red OEM Long Life Coolant? Prestone Command

Valvoline Asian Red seems to be generally accepted as a subtitute in the markets where the Toyota coolant is hideously expensive. Have a big landcruiser friend here in Jamaica who swears by the Cat (as in Caterpillar) Diesel coolant (which is also the same colour)

    Alternative Fuels for Diesel Landcruisers

I have a friend who ran his 1kz and runs his 1hd-t on biodiesel made mostly from used cooking oil. He swears by it, but he has had some.... odd.... fuelling issues/pump issues over the years with it. It is cheaper than buying pump diesel without a doubt, but not sure it is for me.

3rd gen 4runner or Lexus LX470 (100 Series LC) PROS VS CONS

The 100 definitely is more comfortable and spacious if you plan to be living out of it, but for my purposes and the very narrow trails in Jamaica, a 4runner just fits the space better and is much easier to turn around in tight spaces (which happens way too often in my adventures) I would love...

110km/h beep beep speed alarm - 2000 Hilux Surf

The closest thing to a touchscreen is when I leave fingerprints on the windscreen when putting up my dashcam and gps hahaha.

110km/h beep beep speed alarm - 2000 Hilux Surf

If it could be adjusted I would be ALL for that. I can't even figure out how to disable it, let alone adjust it though, and the previous owner has been unreachable since 2015!

110km/h beep beep speed alarm - 2000 Hilux Surf

Funny funny, But seriously, the two toll highways (about the only places I hit 110kmph - the speed limit) are 68km and 45km long, and that beeping can get annoying really quickly for those drives. If the limit came it at 120 or so I wouldn't even bother since it is extremely rare for me to...

110km/h beep beep speed alarm - 2000 Hilux Surf

Lol. I usually drive around 110 on the highway with a 110 speed limit, but when passing/overtaking etc it is VERY annoying, not to mention the wife gives me some real death stares. Need to figure this out

    Intro: 4 Runner Fan:

Not a problem man, just talking from experience. Tundra is a BIG BOI compared to the 4runner. Really a matter of personal preference. Over here in Jamaica a tundra won't fit on most of the 4wd trails, but Hiluxes and Surf's have no problems. In the US you have space for a big machine like the...

Best AT Tires on 4Runner? - KO2 Thoughts?

Another place I should mention that Duratracs were phenomenol. In SAND. I was always able to drive on the beaches when the guys running mudders would just dig giant holes. Horses for courses I guess, Sure you didn't just want an excuse to yell at the wife? Lol. Seriously speaking, I guess...

    Intro: 4 Runner Fan:

Honest advice here.... Sell it before you start modding and use the money to buy a 4wd 4runner. In a 2wd you may as well be driving a car as far as overlanding is concerned. You should never have to worry about the condition of trails/roads/weather based on being 2wd if you are going to...
