    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

Actually, @FJBen is right. 12.8 l/100 is about 18.4 USMPG or 22 imperial MPGs. And @Gun Runner 5 wonders why I post metric? 😂 So, back to the build... I've noticed, even unladen, that I have a slightly lower back end. Measuring confirms that the front is higher than the back by around 3/4...

    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

(from my prado 90 thread, elsewhere) I've been pleasantly surprised with the fuel economy. My latest tank spent 3/4 of the fuel pulling my military trailer with RTT on top, mountain bike on back, and water on board. I got 12.8L/100 in mixed driving. I thought that was really good, esp at 1000...

Builds Canada - 1999 KZJ90 Land Cruiser "build"

Drove the 90 for the first time in a few weeks last night. Managed to wrestle it away from my wife. I sure do miss that turbo whistle. But then I tried to pull away from a stop sign in 2nd and almost stalled it. 😂 Damn you 1HZ!

Thank you sir! Its been fun so far. The bodywork was daunting, but rewarding once I got a handle on it. The front porch is definitely a conversation piece. Like, literally, yourself and a dozen of your closest friends can sit on it and have a conversation. 😁 I wonder if my PTO version is even...

    93 PZJ70 Project

Partsouq should be able to give you info based on chassis ID (pictured). But I just tried it, and unless those aren't 4's, partsouq is not recognizing it. My 70 series has another character before the dash, but mines from Japan, so that may not be helpful... Do you have any identifiers on the...

    2002 HZJ76 Build

So glad you decided to document. Loving this one so far. I've bought a lot of auction rigs over the years... Isn't it lovely when the expectations match what lands in your driveway? There are always surprises. But as long as the bones are good, it was worth it. When we are welcomed back into BC...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Well look at that handsome fellow! Love those black and tans too! My OG Shiba (in my profile pic) went to Moab with me many times, as well as all over western Canada and the US. He passed away last year at 15. My little girl Shiba is 12 now, and is fully blind, but she still goes on camping...

Quite the collection mister Buggy. Really should start your own thread and you can add to it as things progress.

Builds Canada - 1999 KZJ90 Land Cruiser "build"

Thanks so much @Rigster . Build threads are mostly pages of talking to yourself, so it's nice to hear that at least someone got a laugh. 😄 My wife is currently using the Prado in this thread as her daily. She loves her 100. But it has a substance abuse problem, requiring frequent stops at (gas)...

    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

Knocked down the peeling/cracked clear on the hood and dusted it with my remaining color matched rattle can. It's still "patina-ed", but without looking quite so neglected. Between this and the flares, I can now look at it without cringing. Someday a full spray will be likely raining down...

    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

Been dithering on paint for a while. Don't want to spend the money any time soon, and it's not *that* bad. But the flares were all badly shedding clear coat, and the resulting dilapidation brought the whole truck down. So... Today I finally decided on a stop gap measure until "someday." I...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

@Guyute it wouldn't hurt to post more pics of that rig. I would not be offended. 8274's are the bizz, and your whole frontend looks pretty sweet in the closeups.

    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

So I took a little camping trip last weekend, and several times the truck went quiet when I turned the key to "start". I've been suspecting the ignition switch, since it generally only misbehaved when it was warm. And it was very warm last weekend. We actually hit 37* C at one point, which for...

    EGT Temps and Driving Tips?

I think briefly elevated temps around town is fine, and 900° or so is well within normal, in my experience. Overdrive can have the engine lugging esp on a grade. Try switching it off if temps start creeping. If it's a sustained climb, physically shifting down another gear can help too (obviously...

    EGT Temps and Driving Tips?

Is yours a manual or an auto? Where is your egt metering? Before or after the turbo? 1400 is scary high in my opinion. And staying at low rpm will not help lower your temps. Revving it out (within reason) is how you get those gasses out, and temps lower. Opinions vary but if I ever go above...

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Tried towing my little trailer again, post-new-injectors, with my brother following (not because he couldn't keep up LOL). The driving experience is way more fun. I even did some hills in 5th, without the EGT's sky-rocketting. Anyways, just a few days away with my brother, the bikes and the dogs.

What did you do on your 70 series today?

How do you carry them in that configuration? Front wheels off? Spare in place is trippy! 😆 Look forward to getting back to CO!

What did you do on your 70 series today?

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow 70 series canuck owners. Getting ready for a trip with my brother... Nowhere remote, just a chance to get away for a few days. This morning I set up a 12v batt in the back to run the fridge. My 24->12v converter is set up to charge the aux batt when engine is...

    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

This is not an update as such, but my wife finally drove the 77. We went for a little ice cream run last night and switched out on the outskirts so she could drive it home. She's driven all my rigs over the years, and had some cool ones of her own. Once she got used to the idea that 1st gear was...

    Builds OL'BETSY ZX: Rust-o-mod (1991 HZJ77)

Well, the long drive to work today up and down hills, back roads, highways, and gravel roads all pointed to success! On hills where before I had to downshift to 4th to make it up the other side without drama can now be done in 5th. Way less smoke, evident only when I really get into the...
