Hey guys, I've noticed that inside the axle housing the 'cone' or guiding washer appears to be intact on the passenger side, but is missing (more accurately, was destroyed) on the driver side.
Referring to some of the pictures above, you can see where it appears to be missing, at least the...
Thank you guys for lending me your help on this! Here's what I've got so far:
1) I've de-burred and re-circularized the approach to the mating surface for the inner axle seal, and will apply a small amount of grey permatex to the mating surface to help seal it up.
2) I'll adjust the steering...
Right on, thank you guys.
I went out and got to whittling the burrs away and was able to get it cleaned up. I'll clean up the dust, get a couple gasket kits on the way, and report the results.
I appreciate it!
A while back I had a ds birfield failure out on an adventure that ended with me limping the vehicle home.
I was in a position where having a local mechanic rebuild the corner for me was my only recourse, so I purchased a new birf, seals, etc and had a 'fixed' vehicle back in my...
ohhhh.... Yeah pass on that. To my understanding, this generation of GM motor and trans is controlled by the same unit.
I'm mostly worried about trying to ... adapt a GM trans to the existing shift assembly and cluster outputs.
It's not my first swap, but it IS my first cross mfg swap. I've...
According to the internet (tm) the 4l60e can support 400/400 without much problems, and they are cheap enough that if I break one I can just get another one.
Sooo that's onto the consideration list. I know that there is an adapter from marks that will allow me to run the H2FA to the 4l60e...
Definately considering it. The 4l60e that came with the truck I bought was a 4WD so it wouldn't work with the marks adapter, so I just sold it.
If I do go GM, I'm thinking that a 4l80 2WD would be best?
Steps completed so far:
* crashed 2004 Suburban purchased, drivetrain pulled, donor vehicle sold.
* Engine rebuilt at machine shop bottom-to-top
* now sourcing full parts list before pulling engine from running vehicle.
I'll use this box to post questions that are outstanding and perhaps drop links for later developments.

I've had my cruiser for a couple years now and it's served me well on many adventures, but at the miles creep up, my quest for power drives ever onward.
Now in my possession is a zero-mile '04 GM 5.3 L59 that I intend to have carry me throughout the forests and hills; getting there is...
Sounds right, oil is in the right place for the distributor leak.
Though with the above posted video, I may need to do a little more extensive work.
engines got around 275k on it, so I might need to do a full rebuild here.
