general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

Here' a a look at what the console covers up for those of you curious: BTW, that cadmium sheet metal screw is something I put in. There was a hole in the black metal bracket, but not the body under it and the whole guts of the console are not all that firmly attached. I decided to drill a...

general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

Back on the interior, we gradually are making our way forward. This amp is just for the woofer in the stock position in the rear. I've decided not to bother to put the disused OEM amplifiers back in the truck--just extra weight and they never will be used again. A long time ago, I covered...

general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

Here's the new pigtail off of lines A1 and A4 While I'm at it I am replacing that bulb with: At 3000K it is a very warm color, but I actually prefer that for map lights. The lights in rear are more of a pure white at 4500K. I kind of temporarily banged the console in (the space for the...

general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

So now it is time to finish up the wiring for the fancy rear-view mirror and close things up and (hopefully) start putting the dash back in. The fancy mirror-dashcam has a pretty hefty current draw. The USB adapter is 2.5 amps. It also requires placement of a GPS antenna. I was going to run...

general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

Wiring-wise, the reverse light signal to the head unit needs to be pulled low normally, and the parking brake needs to be pulled high normally, so a couple of resistors pulled out of the 1990's era mobile phone transmitter we found in the truck did nicely: And then a little wrapping with...

After mounting the USB and switches, here is the result. Red for reverse, I think.

Lately I've been routing the wiring for the various cameras and whatnot. The head unit requires the car to be in park to enter certain setup modes, which is annoying, and the second rearward camera (in the license plate holder that looks more at the ground) is meant to turn on when you put the...

Builds Golden Boy / was 'an as-yet unnamed gulf spec diesel 1991 HZJ pickup'

So yesterday I did drive into DC to the UAE embassy. Turns out that they have closed the service desk because of the pandemic. I was unsuccessful in persuading them to let me drop it off at the security station. They only are accepting documents for legalization by mail. So I drove about a...

    Finally got my FZJ80! 1997 $2500

My additional suggestion is to go through all the hoses. Especially the ones at the back including the riser to the heater control valve and back into the firewall and out again. That riser runs right by the block and does get exposed to a fair amount of heat. And I'd also do a good flush of...

    '93 FZJ80, worth it?

As others have said...rust. 27 years in Chicago is a lot of salty hard winters. And as a buyer of a rusty low-mileage pig 100 that I am still struggling to know what to do with, I add make sure to look very closely to see if they have undercoated the underside to hide rust.

    New Here!

Your magnet/sticker is on its way! I took the liberty of editing the text. Should arrive around 23 SEP 2020. I sent it to Wilma Slaghoople, which was Wilma's maiden name. But there apparently is some controversy about this, according to Wikipedia: Wilma's maiden name is the subject of a...

    New Here!

That's a great name! Perhaps you would like a Wilma sticker for your new old gal. Perhaps this one, or this one? If you PM me with your address it would be my pleasure to welcome you to Mud by getting it for you. And white is my favorite color for Land Cruisers:

    New Here!

Congratulations! Please post some photos of the new addition to your family. We'd all like to see, I'm sure. Have you named it yet? I use a 1998 model 100 as my daily driver and it is very comfortable, and I love it. But as I've gotten more and more into the 80 series I've come to really...

general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

P.S. Now that I am thinking about this more, it should also be possible to put a small patch of polarizing film on the back glass just in front of the camera that should solve the problem. Self-adhesive polarizing film is readily available from every neighborhood cell phone repair shop. It...

general interior electrical amenities upgrades on the 1993 Middle East model 80

I did it like that in my 1998 model 100 and didn't have an issue. There is still some tinting back there from its time in the Middle East. And on the 93 its got even some darker tint, but not as shiny. I suspect the 98 may have polarizing film. I will try to remember to post again about this...

In case you were wondering about the name in the subject line... I think I might actually black out the 'Y' and 'O' completely.

    1993 Heater Core replacement

I'm in the reassembly stage right now on my 93. I do suggest you look at getting an old brass one rebuilt at a traditional radiator shop. I also suggest having them extend the pipes about 1.5 inches --it makes it ever so much easier under the hood. I do have some photos of the project in this...

I broke my own rule again with a 1994 petrol pickup "Iota"

I have enough old Land Cruisers. I don't need any more. Really. But the other day I was sitting with my older boy and chatting with a friend in Abu Dhabi over Whatsapp (he has an 80 he's putting back into service). I've be sharing a lot on my battles with the 93 model 80 here in the garage...

Just a little update friends... As discussed above, I am in Virginia and I think I probably will stay until the November election before heading back to Dubai. My mechanics swear Golden Boy is ready for shipping to the US. About two months ago I sorted out what paperwork was necessary to...
