The joint in this shaft failed sometime last year, I had installed a spare shaft in the interim.

The bearing races wouldn't budge on side that broke, so I had to cut the joint out with a cut off wheel.

Here you can see where the bearing failed.

Got it all back together, rattle canned, and both shafts installed.

I'm waiting on some gear oil to top off the fluids and get the skid plate back on. This means I need to switch gears and focus on the engine again.

I center punched a divet, and using a wood working drill block, I drilled a 1/8 then a 3/16 hole. I used butyl tape on the inside of the block to catch the shavings when it went through.

I had a friend of mine make this drill guide for me using an 18.5 mm bit. It uses an existing m12x1.25 hole for placement.

I couldn't find a gasket for the pick up tube strainer so I made one up.

Strainer fitted for the final time and torqued to 14 ft lbs.

Small dab on the gap between the oil pump housing and block.

I haven't bought the turbo for this engine yet but I went ahead and got the long lead items like the manifold. With the block already prepped for a drain, the install should be quick and pain free. I'm having my buddy make up a block off for the egr port on the turbo manifold. Ideally I want to run this engine and monitor the egt's naturally aspirated so I have a better feel for what is safe with the turbo.

Nice work! Does the oil pan seriously not use a gasket - just RTV?

Thanks, yep just rtv, most if not all of the newer engines are like that. The 12ht's and 3b's after 85 are as well.

Picked up some oil filters for the 15bf. Was pleased to find out they are actually available from the dealer.

Also got some motivation last night and blasted the bell housing brackets and bell housing plate. Powdered them this morning. The 3bii and 15bf brackets are different from the 3b brackets, although it appears the right side bracket may still fit.

These 15bf ones were pretty clean but I figured I'd coat them anyway. The 3bii were rougher.

New pilot bearing, pulled the old one with the bread trick.

Torqued the flywheel and front crank bolt.

Right about here I realized I screwed up, the pressure plate wouldn't fit....turns out I installed the 3bii 260mm flywheel by accident.
