So, the vacuum leak……

I remember someone telling me a long time ago the monster intake like this would not work with headers.

I test fitted the two and all seemed good so I ran with it.

Turns out….the intake is so thick it was hitting the header tubes.

I love this intake so I just broke out the belt sander and a BFH and made the two happy together.

It cost me a gasket but now it fits nice and snug

I dug up old pics and you can see the bottom of the intake is not flush to the gasket

But I got it going and all is well for a first test drive.

I’m going to take it out now that I know what the issue is and make myself a little more clearance between the two.

I’ll be waiting on some parts so Rosie is on the shelf for a few days while I spend some time with Red and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Stay tuned

Got my final parts in and did one more clearance on the header and stuck it all back together and went for a nice long ride this am

Had to program the speedo. The little brass tang that rides in the housing was spinning in the wire so I had to clamp on it a bit to make them talk.

I got back and started monkeying with the fuel gauge.

It was saying the fuel was open meaning no signal from the sending unit to the Dakota. I redid some grounding and it came to life.

I pull the sender out and did a manual cycle since none of the presets work with a Toyota sender on the Dakota.

I think I finally bolted the last OEM part on this one from Brendan’s mighty stash with these sun visors

Just got back from another ride. Other than the turd 3 on the tree ….. 😆😆

I’ve never actually driven one that’s been rebuilt by the master or one new enough to not feel clapped out. It’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be

It’s part of the charm Nolan
Part of the charm
Looking real nice real nice 👍

Some people roll around in these trucks with a few .22lrs in the ash tray, a pack of pall mall non-filters, and a rack of yellow jackets bang shifting that 3 on the tree and standing on them drums just to think about when America wasn’t full of s***

I digress, again amazing outcome

Feels like this one has been here a long time but I just went back and looked and it’s only been 2 full months.

I love projects that flow like this one has.

What's it like driving without the fiberglass top? Is it obnoxiously loud and turbulent inside the cab?

I’m gonna go with this…

Just no shade but not bad

It's hard not to love those Dakota dashes; I just wish they had a real tach...

You can get one with a tach but it’s ugly as hell. The beauty of these is they look stock. I would not install the other kind.

I'm totally with you on that.

I actually like the one with an actual tach. Personal preference.
