I think I'm going to have to try Penetrol. I've been doing CLR scrub, then lots of fluid film and the FF just doesn't stand up to the salt air.

Extremely happy with how the Penetrol dried. At 12 hours it was still a little sticky. 24 hours completely touchable. I am moving forward with the school bus yellow on the jack rods. I’ll stare at it for a while and see. This might be a repaint. Looks better with more coats and having dried. Also drained the oil removed the Oil filter housing. New gasket, oil and filter Saturday.

@Goldbug ….my first real use of penetrol. Will see how it does. I too suffer from salt spray.
I use Penetrol on mine its fantastic. Fluid film is great for the frame if you do it every so often. Litterally you can see salt spray from the ocean in the air in the village where I live somtimes haha.

Yeah, I've been to Ocracoke, it's awesome. But every time I see your thread I think about that old patina'd metal and how you're surrounded by salt water. Totally worth it though.

Amazing….just received a phone call from seatbelt planet. My belts landed in Oklahoma on Tuesday.
They have been re webbed and will be picked up this afternoon by UPS headed back.
I will post photos as soon as I have them

Next time you are down here let me know! I keep the 40 greased up. and I have that penatrol stuff on the patina. I will say its keeping that rust at bay! I have found no new rust forming. I am glad I went ahead and disassembled the top. The rain gutter in another year would have been crunchy. its the best vehicle for here on Ocracoke though. I am redoing the hard top right now but I am also planning on putting a soft top on this summer. I think @Catching Neutral you should get yours in soon?

The man who answered the phone was fine….seemed busy but answered my questions.

I love me a productive morning. Played 🏐 for 2 hours then got busy on my 40. The jack rods turned out much better than I hoped. I cleaned up the jack but didn’t paint it. Here they are side by side in natural light. I am happy with this.

I then turned my attention to the oil filter housing… Getting the surfaces clean was the most challenging part, particularly the block surface. Once that was accomplished. Reattached using new gasket and Permatex copper gasket spray.
Added a new washer to the drain plug, new oil filter and filler her up with the good stuff.
Took her for a test drive…..no leak🤞🏻

Seatbelts arrived from Seatbelt Planet and of course I have no roll bar to attach them to. It should be ready in a week or so. They look great. They didn’t reattach one of the toyota labels as it appears a bit tattered. I’ll have to work removing it and having my seamstress reattach. I am otherwise pleased. Used the Mothers back to black to re condition the plastic.
