It's a new Aisin Ax15 transmission, which is basically an updated R150/R151f with a different extension housing. These transmissions shift well and hold good power, they get swapped behind LS swaps too and so far it feels great.
 
Just a disclaimer I wouldn't want someone to read this thread and think they can order all the parts and get this swap done in a weekend or something like that, there is a fair amount of custom fab work on several different parts and it is one of the more involved manual swaps I have done so far, for example you cannot get an oem clutch pedal for this vehicle like you can an 80 series. There is also the electronic stuff to deal with too.

For the engine to transmission adapter just lookup 1uz to R154 adapters, you can bolt any R series to a 1uz 2uz or 3uz with those adapters.
Most use the internal slave that is found on the 02 camaro LS transmissions or an aftermarket version of that depending on single or dual disc clutch setups.
For the trans to transfer case our transefer case is a HF2A and those transmissions have a Jeep 23 output and there is one company that makes them so far.
You could also do a split case setup with a different adapter if you wanted to go part time, but I like the full time setups.

@Ali SC3 Can you elaborate on the 'electronic stuff' that you dealt with? I have procured a H151F and intend to install it in my 100 later this year so I am preparing for issues I expect to encounter. I am very interested in hearing how you approached the NSS, cruise control and codes triggered by the absence of the AT shift solenoids/other AT sensors.
 
What year is your 100? If you are early non-vvti I think you can just use an auto trans emulator and a few resistors for the solenoids, put the nss on a push button for starting the car, you're not going to want to put the nss on the clutch pedal switch unless you have an actual manual ecu or tune. The 02+ have a different throttle body and ecu, not sure how those will idle but if you are 05+ vvti that still causes some idle issues and am still working on that or an ecu tune as the 02+ is starting to be supported but getting the right tune and keeping the immobilizer is also a whole thing to deal with. The 05+ LC seems to have the newer form of immobilizer, older years not sure maybe not.

If it doesn't work out though and you are having issues there is always a standalone, something like a emu black, aem or proefi could run a 2uz vvti or non vvti very similar to a 3uz vvti setup, those motors just have different sensors on them but alot is similar. I will probably go this route eventually but am trying to get an oem ecu solution working first.

On another note, I ordered a cup holder on ebay that said it was for a manual 100 series, and it actually clips into the flat section of the shifter trim.
It's on the smaller side for a cup holder, but it fits a phone and extra stuff at least.

Thank you for the feedback! I received that cup holder with my last PartSouq order :)

My 100 is a 1999. I'll research the AT emulator. In the meantime, I have been exploring how the ECU responds to neutral. It starts and idles in neutral, if I shift it into neutral with cruise control set the cruise deactivates, if I shift into neutral at 60mph it drops to to idle as I would expect. I was testing to see if putting the NSS on the clutch switch could theoretically work. It's interesting you suggest avoiding putting the NSS on the clutch switch. Is this something you tried that did not work? I understand the VVTI and non-VVTI ECU's would not necessarily behave the same.

An ECU for a manual 2003 100 with a 2UZ was included with the transmission I received. If it can be any use for you tracking down a manual tune, I'd be happy to share it since you are much further along on this journey.
 
Are you getting any codes? Sounds like you might not need the ATEMU on the 99 depending on the codes it throws, the higher the year the more picky it is.
If you are getting the full rpm range in neutral you could try putting it on the clutch pedal at the bottom for a non vvti then.
In that scenario for cruise to work right you would wire up D I think to the switch on the top of the clutch pedal, the cruise cancel switch I think its called.
That way when the clutch it out, it will see D, and as soon as you clutch in it doesn't see D (seems this might cancel cruise also), and then it will see the NSS when you go all the way down. If you let the ecu see D though you can get other codes down the line, so if its happy in N, then maybe just run it in N and NSS on the clutch pedal.. I imagine you have codes though.

I did similar to a tacoma here on post 41 and I ran into gear ratio mismatch codes in D, but cruise did work. the auto connector might be the same even.
maybe if you try 2 instead of D it might help but I don't remember how far I got with that as I got a hold of a manual tacoma ecu in that case.

The atemu can help get rid of alot of the codes, at least the 02+ ecu will throw a code if it doesn't see one switch from P to 1, 2 or D (which the ATEMU does, outputs P on start and then under 800 rpms and gear 2 over 800 rpms to the ecu). To actually start it you want the NSS on a push button switch instead of on the clutch switch.
The NSS active or not is separate from the gear sent to the ecu, but normally is active in P or N, so if you have the NSS active while the ecu sees 1, 2 or D then it will also throw a code. At some point if you have it on the clutch you will clutch in above 800rpms and throw a code as the ecu sees 2 usually as the gear above 800 rpms.

So one way that works is to let the atemu do its park to neutral switch thing, and nss wise put it on a switch so when you start the car its active (P), and then the rest of the time it will just think you are in gear as the nss is not active. The ecu will not throw a code for seeing the nss off while P is output for some reason below 800 rpms.
I am not sure how well cruise control likes it, I will have to give it a try again but I thought it was working fine before.
Another thing I found on vvti is the vvti doesn't feel active in neutral, so just putting it in N and living with codes isn't a good option.

I am considering putting a standalone on it, but the factory ecu is reliable and doesn't need any tuning so there is a tradeoff.

Thanks for the offer on the ecu, will let you know if it can come in handy but guessing since I am vvti I need to find something for one of those.

Made a console plate with transfer case shift boots so its all quiet inside. Ignore the extra wires those were removed later.
A layer of the factory insulation piece went on top of this also.

I would like to get something to replace the factory nav unit and stereo, the tesla screen is tempting but not sure how well it will work.

A layer of the factory insulation piece went on top of this also.

I would like to get something to replace the factory nav unit and stereo, the tesla screen is tempting but not sure how well it will work.
Open to suggestions haven't had time to research it yet.

I would like to get something to replace the factory nav unit and stereo, the tesla screen is tempting but not sure how well it will work.
Open to suggestions haven't had time to research it yet.
I feel the aftermarket screens aren't worth it, especially that tesla style. I haven't spent much time researching but with the way technology advances Id suggest just mounting a nice tablet instead and retaining the factory nav.

Having a tablet will allow you to just upgrade as the years go and newer devices come out. Along with a BT45 bluetooth adapter its a solid solution. I can make calls, run spotify, use google/gaia maps and all normal tablet stuff. It's especially nice when connecting to OBD2 to monitor everything.

I have the @BenCC modification to put a ram mount ball on the center dash. I also have Ram mount that connects to the passenger side foot rail for rougher roads.
This is with the seat rail mounted setup. Can spin it to the passenger if they want control or back to driver when needed.

Where did you source the speaker cloth? Looks like the right color. I got some beige mesh cloth and way to yellow.

Its a Jeep 23 spline to Toyota HF2A adapter, it can go behind transmissions like the AX15 which are medium duty, and even behind some versions of the nv4500 or the new Tremec TR4050 which are both heavy duty transmissions. I don't think most would need those bigger transmissions in a 100 unless you had some serious power or a turbo diesel, but with that sort of adapter it theoretically is possible to do.

Got it off Amazon, its a little soft so will see how it will hold up long term but it does look and feel nice. Other way I would go is just cleaning and painting the covers then you can just clean the smudges instead of recovering eventually.

Nice, I like the tablet idea but I was hoping to get rid of the whole factory nav setup, the 06 has a nav ecu under the passenger seat, a seperate ecu under that for the backup camera, and then an amplifier mounted to the side all separate from the headunit. I feel like one stereo can do all of that these days but the only issue is finding something that keeps the climate controls. I would try mounting a tablet and run an external amp if it could run the climate controls somehow.

Those have a R150f which normally have a toyota output for a left hand driver drop chain driven transfer case and is a different shape bolt pattern than the LC. You can get adapters for the R150f to a mini truck gear driven TC but those are a centered rear output and passenger drop for the front. Since the LC uses a passenger drop for the front and rear you really need to keep the LC case or go to a split case which is the same configuration but you loose 4WD.

The main adapter I found to a land cruiser transfer case is for a Jeep output 23 spline, and Aisin just happens to make the same R series transmission with a Jeep rear output and that is the Ax15 (They also make a version for the chevy colorado, hummer H2, lots of vehicles all have different shifter and mount setups 2wd and 4wd etc..).
The front pattern on these are the same pattern as a R series transmission so alot of stuff is interchangeable like adapters etc..

Thanks, I was trying to do the conversion as original as possible using as the toyota/aisin parts that are available here and I think it turned out great.
For the front the R series like the R154 are really popular to put behind a 2jz with an oem 1jz bellhousing.. and later the 1uz became popular with an aftermarket adapter and 1uz auto bellhousing which all happen to bolt to a 2uz and 3uz just fine. Clutch kit I chose an Act HD pressure plate that fits the custom flywheel and clutch disc / pilot bearing I had to figure out. Also have to modify the input shaft some as the AX15 one is longer.

I saw an Icon fj40 with an vortec LS and an AX15 on bring a trailer recently so people are putting them in front of toyota cases it seems.
That would be great, I'll def bring it by the ColoYota Expo! I was planning to come by anyways.
I was reading through your electric 80 series thread, that's pretty awesome! You should consider putting an ax15 in there, adds length and gearing options.
I am actually working on a 2jz ax15 swap on my 80 series now but did think about going electric originally, maybe on the next one.

A layer of the factory insulation piece went on top of this also.

I would like to get something to replace the factory nav unit and stereo, the tesla screen is tempting but not sure how well it will work.
Open to suggestions haven't had time to research it yet.

I got it on amazon after reading a thread somewhere on here, search for "Enxiem Speaker Grill Cloth Stereo Grill Mesh Fabric Speaker Mesh Cloth (Beige)"
It matches the interior well, the original speaker cloth I can't say for sure what color it started out as mine was faded.

Took a little while to get all the finishing touches done but everything has been sorted out now with the manual swap and the lift.
I'll get a driving video up this week showing it go through the gears.

Finished installing the Slee stainless extended brake lines installed all around.
Installed a Delta pan hard drop bracket in the rear to make the rear end more stable with the lift and recenter the rear Axle.
Installed a Trail tailor diff drop to help with the front CV angles.
Don't have a lot of pictures of those installs as they are pretty straight forward but will snap some of the finished truck this week.

I also figured out how to make the factory ecu happy with the manual swap with minimal addons finally and was actually pretty simple.
I also did manage to get a tuned ecu for a manual swap specifically which is what is on the car now and doesn't need the extra stuff.
If you are doing a manual swap on one reach out to me and I can point you in the right direction.

All together the clutch is broken in and all the important stuff is working like stock, except the 100 is alot more fun to drive now =)
 
Got a chance to wash the LC and take some better pictures. Attempted a driving video but I need a better camera mount or a second person so will try again.
