Trying to save some cash on my rebuild and I'm wondering if I should go with less than OEM solutions, I can get one local ish for 400€. I don't think the engine in questions matters as its all the same tin anyway but just in case it's for a 2LTII

Yep, it lasted 4 months and almost 5K miles in 1KZ-TE. The first and last chinese head for me.

Cracked and created pressure to the coolant.

I guess its a 50/50 toss up then
It seems so, it's also not the same factory making all of them but you don't really know what you get. I've spoken to two different head specialists and have gotten similarly conflicting answers

I don't think anyone would argue factory Toyota is best. If you have the cash to burn, I believe a new Toyota genuine head would be best. If you have the time to wait, I believe hunting for a good condition used head from a wrecker/private sale, and refurbishing it or giving it a quick clean and sticking it on would be the best bang for buck. In my case I had neither, hence necessity required the aftermarket head. As I said, I've had no issues with it, but it's on my list to do something about eventually. My plan would be to get a genuine used head, refurbish and fit that, and keep the aftermarket one as an emergency spare.

But as they say, no solution is as permanent as a temporary one

chinese head works ok, we use it all the time in malaysia. believe it or not they last longer than the original heads.
my customer tried a second hand one they still crack.

Here in Aus, the 1HZ is common enough that engine rebuilders have these heads in stock on the shelves. If you don't have an option like that available to you, the most direct source would probably be to look on Alibaba, like this one:
The problem with that is, the thing weighs 50kg, so shipping is where you'll get unstuck. If you're running a business, you can bring a palette of them over in a container and wait 3-6 months for them, reducing the relative costs per piece. As an individual, getting 50kgs of anything from a warehouse in Asia to your door is going to be pricey.

Luckily i found a few for sale in the EU so atleast its only a 100 eur in shipping

You really need to check the head over good once you get it. Some things to look for:
- depth of dowel holes
- trueness of machined surfaces
- hose or other anciliary connections - sometimes wrong/missing threads
- coolant passages for debris or casting flaws
- fitment of manifold studs
- lineup with head gasket

Usually it's fixable. Only had 2 installed on 1HD-T's. One lasted one didn't.
