What’re the differences between the ec off-road and the phoenix head units ? Is the ec unit worth double the price of the phoenix unit ?

any way you could paste the feature upgrades and additions here?Sergei's firmware does fix a lot of problems and also adds a TON of new features. He just added a feature that can turn the heated steering wheel on when you start the car. That's something one would want to turn back off in the summer, obviously, but just an example of some of the features he has added. If one searches through that Facebook group, there are a few posts that list all the features - it's a pretty long list. He's also incredibly helpful spending time to help people with problems. He spent several hours with me one night helping me do a full factory reset of my head unit to resolve reboot issues - it's a relatively complicated procedure because some licenses need to be regenerated, which required sending some files back and forth. The $100 investment for his product is well worth it IMHO.
After 10 minutes or so of looking, I can't find the post on the Facebook group (that I'm pretty sure exists) that has the list. That's one of the downsides of Sergey's mod - all of the discussion is on Facebook which is a really terrible (IMHO) format for this sort of thing. Facebook does a terrible job of alerting me of new posts in discussions I have asked for alerts and is a complete organizational mess. I suspect Sergey uses it because it's free and he's already established there. In case it wasn't clear I DESPISE Facebook Groups .any way you could paste the feature upgrades and additions here?
That specific feature does require Internet access and is useful when the factory sensor can't be used. However, at least on my 2020, I was able to enable display of the car's sensor on the Tesla unit (so no Internet access needed and displays the actual temp at the current location rather than from a time delayed sensor that might be many miles away and at a different altitude). I forget exactly what I needed to do, but I'm pretty sure I posted the details in the other thread for 2016+ Tesla style units. Thanks! That is very helpful
Does Obtain outdoor temperature online require internet access? That is one thing that these units don't display is outside temperature even though the car sensers are still there
My temp sensor works and displays in the EC Offroad Tesla unit. No internet needed. Thanks! That is very helpful

IIRC, I needed to get to the password protected settings to turn the factory temp sensor feature on in the Tesla head unit. Once I did that, the temperature displayed. It's quite likely this is a customization that EC Offroad had done in the firmware they get.My temp sensor works and displays in the EC Offroad Tesla unit. No internet needed.
Yeah, I've heard of a number of people having success with that automation trick. One annoying thing is that for iPhone, it won’t auto connect the hot spot. This is work for a while on mine but now it won’t. I now just toggle it off/on on manually. I believe, on the latest iOS, you can set up an automation to turn on the hot spot when it connects to Bluetooth. That could be a way to fix this.

My outside temp does not display. That is why I asked. Unless you guys bought the exact same version of the hardware at roughly the same time, it’s very likely that some specific options like this changed. It’s odd how some work and others don’t.
Up/down steering wheel buttons work for me but they are backwards though. Down advances the track.I got this EC OffRoad tesla-style unit installed over the weekend and it's a huge upgrade for my 2015. Installation is a bit of a PITA, but the videos provided by EC OffRoad are pretty helpful (in addition to the huge helpful list of videos up above).
A couple questions for those who have this unit:
- Do the up/down steering wheel buttons work for you? They used to skip forward/back on music tracks with the OEM head unit, but now they don't seem to do anything.
- Android auto works when plugged into USB, but I can't get it working wirelessly. It worked when I first installed the unit, but then stopped working and I can't get it to connect wirelessly anymore (I've tried 3 different Android phones and all do the same issue). Using my son's iphone, Apple Car Play works without issue both wired or wirelessly. Any ideas? I'm tempted to just switch to iphone, but that seems extreme.
Also, I had a volume issue where the music volume over Bluetooth or car play was very low. I found a setting in Car Settings that allows me to increase volume of the amp; if anyone else has this problem, send me a message and I can get more specifics about where that menu/setting was.
I wouldn't assume they know their way around taking your Land Cruiser dash apart and putting it back together any better than you do and may not be as careful as you would be. It really isn't that difficult to do it yourself.Has anyone had their PX6 Android/Carplay install done by Phoenix Automotive themselves in Walnut, CA? I believe there's an option to have them do the install for about $300 and I'm thinking since it's their product it might be best to just have them do the install when I take a roadtrip out that way later this Fall?

Yeah, another really good point. There's definitely some trial and error involved getting these things to work smoothly. I would much rather know exactly how everything is connected than have to sort through what someone else did. There Is also a decent chance you will be taking it out for one reason or another after it goes in the first time. Knowing how is good.
