What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? (35 Viewers)

I really like the windshield vents on the early cruisers. I finally got to take it out to replace the gasket, which also works as the hinge. Of course most of the studs broke, some were still long enough to use, about 4 of them were too short.

I welded new screws and cut the heads so I was very happy with the results

Until I took the tape off in the back and realized the heat from the welder damaged the paint in a few spots 🥺🥺

I’m almost about to paint it white to match the roof and bezel, at least until I find a color match 🤔

Picked up some 17" wheels from a local Mud member and my buddy donated some 285/70/17 MTR's.

Well, success is how you you measure it they say. Today is not what got fixed, but the multiple “what the…”; unanswered questions generated vs resolved.

I did resolve this isn’t moving anytime soon - that mental block is gone. I did manage to pull some parts and start in on more steering stuff.

Rented a pitman puller from O‘Riley and got the gear box removed. Took off the rag joint. Decided since I have more issues than realized, sending the box to Mark’s (@65swb45) Monday. Rag joint, TRE, and drag link from @cruiseroutfit and OEM dampener are on deck. And a center link rebuild- forgot that. Plus some cleaning and degreasing while I figure out what is going on. Maybe remove some smog stuff ( EGR now the fender and gear box are off) after getting kit from Jim @FJ40Jim this week.

(I did pull the plug on gear box, took a peak, and full of red grease - put plug on and decided I don’t want to know - was expecting something that resembles 90wt & pours - maybe ok IDK).

I’m questioning the carb now. Something isn’t right, somewhere with fuel and air anyway. Got 210 miles on the engine now and will pull plugs and see what they say. (there is more, but want to see the plugs first)

Was hooking up a vacuum gage to a warmed engine to see what it is pulling etc and test various ports (mainly to learn about it all), engine load went up to 2500 RPM (estimating by the sound) then the car died after letting off gas. Only way to start and keep it running was with choke. Stopped what I’m doing to take a break and think (after 5-10 minutes of that cycle =start with choke, run with choke, die at choke off).

Decide to get over it and to take it to storage garage (for a longer term) so out of the way 20-30 minutes later - go back to rig, start with choke, leave choke 1/4 out, back out, drive over and things seems ok and so I set choke to off and no problem rest of the day. (It is like when you give your dog one piece of table scrap, and they snarf it and stare back at you as if they have no memory of what just happened).

To success 🥃

This week I ….

started it up in -14 and drove my son to birthday party with his “friend”

Her hair was wet still and may have froze a bit :meh:

Good thing it was a short trip lol
Had a good chuckle at this. According to my father, I had many 'friends' as well :grinpimp:

Figured out proof of concept on powered windows for the old style slim 2 peice doors.

need new rubbers and guides to smoothen it all up, plus need to take 20mm off of the top of the glass. Will still close all the way with no mechanism showing and then go down all the way too.

Had to be willing to cut an "access" panel in the bottom of the door. The door card will still go on and cover it all up as usual.

I had caught a cold last weekend and was feeling unmotivated. I did get a few things done on the land cruiser though. welded up some holes that were previously drilled in the land cruiser for off road lights and an antenna. (people gotta stop drilling holes in these) I also painted my mirror stalks as well. The original was painted so I figured I would paint these as well. I think they turned out well.

Prepping for my rear links.

Got my lower link mount/replacement cross member cut, bent, and tacked today at my college's shop. I need to verify it fully fits between my frame rails since my cruiser is at work.

This should be a fun project to weld out, with lots of fun weird angle practice.

Took a break from building up the wiring and experimented on what color I want to paint this thing. It took a SCT and a few days of sanding to get the 4 different colors of paint off the bib and headlight buckets, but I think I've decided Black and Toyota magnetic gray will be my color scheme.
