Matt, secret weapons are arriving in January.

My birthday is in early February… I think we should have a build party. Anyone in?

@clrussell wait, does this suck?

Honest question: should I post part numbers and more tech or just tell a story? I feel like the balance should be somewhere in the middle. Worried that posting too many part numbers is overwhelming. So much of this build is the same as the first, I don’t want to be overly redundant.
Naah, do what ya want. It's your thread. Plus, lots of folks will be able to reference part numbers (with pics too).

I thought that was a typo and I’ve been waiting for Matt to correct it. Sounds like I’m gonna need that beer, Dave.

Sorry Galen about the confusion. I was making a joke but it seemed to not go so well.

But I just got to learn something new. The good news is the consumer demand is pretty damn low so every time I review my takt time, I never have to ramp up production capabilities.

Today’s wrenching brought to you courtesy of @Workhorse who made me this awesome shirt.

Thank you, friend.

I was able to pick up 48”of .250 wall 2 inch tubing for the front crossmember, as well as the correct front frame gussets.

Forgot about this one. From what I can gather, the 79 series locker ECU just plugs in to the main harness. It should just be a matter of correctly adapting the 80 locker six pin connector for the 79 wiring harness and I should be able to run factory lockers on both trucks. I’m betting that it will be the same pin out, just with a slightly different six pin plastic connector shape. Should be easy enough.

Looks like it would fit right here…clicks together…will explore.

Oh hell, wrong truck, wrong build. I wanted to put this into the single cab thread. Ignore.

But: the same locker ECU should also fit into the new post-7/2009 style harness too.

Fuel filters:

I started with the HDJ100 single filter but many people urged me to run two. @rick_d ran the factory HDJ79 dual filters on the HDJ74, so I am replicating that.

I used (also on Rick’s recommendation) some 12mm German fuel hose easily obtainable on the states.

HDJ79 top, HDJ100,bottom, each with 12mm diameter big old honkin’ pipes.

100-series FTE had same filter setup depending on market. Good to see you got the bodies with the bigger inlets and outlets, HZJ and others are smaller.

Cheers

Indeed. I upsized everything to HDJ: fuel pickup, fuel filters, and I have 1/2” Nicopp tube for inlet and 3/8” for return.

Direction of flow: there are little arrows embossed on the outlet! Or I open the hood of the 74 and look at the routing:

And @SNLC - my motor was Euro spec….did Toyota assume the diesel would be higher quality than other regions? 🤣

The double bracket doesn’t fit properly but I can make it work, I bet.

Transmission arrived today! One of the last pieces of the puzzle.

You know it’s a good day when the parts guy meets you with the transmission already loaded.
