Out of curiosity, what's the plan for the hose replacement?
He could try the @PabloCruise Long Hose Solution (patent pending)...

With the gas fumes successfully eliminated, I installed all new weather stripping to the tailgate and glass channel seal to eliminate exhaust fumes from getting sucked in.

Hallelujah! Finally able to drive it and breath fresh air.

How does the tailgate close, nice and tight?
The only adjustment is the toothed strike that can move only little bit. Unless you oval the holes. It’s a captured nut inside the body that has the ability to slide a certain amount. I ovaled the holes of the body metal on the outside. Once you slide the capture nut where you need it you may have to oval the hole on the inner capture bracket. Tailgate glass has to align with with the weather strip channel. So there is not a hole lot of adjustment available. Some of the aftermaket weather trip all vary a bit so it a bit of fussing around. the tailgate on my 71 fits a bit different then my 77, both stock to the bodies.

Probably to much chatty kathy and not much help.

P.S. I used a dremal with small burr cutters to oval the holes

Can’t recall how long I’ve had the 71 I bought out of Ojegon. I have hardly driven it due to problem solving the fuel smell in the cab. Fixed the tank leak, fixed the missing hose clamp but no luck. Finally found the worm hole in the filler hose..

Took our first sunset joy ride this evening. Drives and handle as it should, yahoo, what a treat. It actually punches out Comparatively speaking.

Time to raise the height (2 inches) of the front bench seat of my 71 pig. I did it to my 72 back in the 70’s. Seems the earlier pigs bench seats feel like your riding around in a lowrider and the accelerator pedal is located for people with a short right leg. Also raising the seat means I don’t need to buy taller tires.

Now I can also see over the steering wheel.

Now just just to shorten the accelerator pedal arm. Have done that to all my pigs. Safer than trying to shorten my leg.

Also removed the trailer hitch from the rear bumper since I don’t have a trailer.

Now I can use a normal crank handle to lower my spare instead of the custom extended crank shaft that I made for my 77 when I first got it when it had a custom bumper and hitch.

Also replaced the worn out lower driver side hinge with one that was has a tight pin.
Door closes perfectly now with just a soft push.

Amazing how a few simple adjustments and repairs makes the pig happier.

I'll be watching the seat mods.
Your floor mounts look like the ones in my '74.
I don't mind the height of my Pig seat, but I do mind the angle of the seat back - too laid back. If I could adjust the seat back, I would crank it forward and leave the seat bottom at the same angle.
Since that would require surgery to the frame, maybe some custom floor mounts could help my angle.
I will cheer you on from the sidelines!

Interested in the shortened gas pedal.
Happen to have pic to share for that?

Some “backyard engineering” solved the seat angle in my first Pig and for the Frankencruiser pre-F150 captain’s chairs. Amazing how a few washers around the rear bolts between seat frame and mount magnify the angle change at the top of the seat back. NHTSA might not approve but my back and neck sure did.

Im not sure but the earlier 71 pigs may have a different length pedal then the 77 pigs.

pictures show the 77 that I shortened to accommodate my leg posture for comfort.

also shows the difference of the modified 77 to the stock 71 that I will shorten.

with the 2” raised seat and shortened pedal it will fit my posture better. Those are the only things

I plan on Modifying on the 71.

Still humbled by the ginormous amount of work that some knights devote to keeping there mistresses happy.

The small endeavors that I tackle seem so insignificant.

The latest pet peeve was the fact the some previous owner that installed the CD player didn’t bother to install it level. It was out of level by a fat 1/16th oh an inch and has had me pissed off to no end. The real extreme bummer has been that I couldn’t put an original ashtray in place until I worked on getting my fn CD PLAYER LEVEL!!!

Finally after several try’s at folding some fn HIDDEN RETAINER CLIPS out of the way I was able to remove the CD player!!! They must have used the jaws of life to enlarge the hole for the CD player.

Using numerous proper tools I was able to clean up the hole in the dash board to the correct shape so that the out of date music listening device would look level while playing the large collection of out of date music storage discs as I drive down the road listening to my favorite 70’s music.

But the real icing on the cake is that now I have my in-dash cigarette ashtray installed which gives me great piece of mind know that can now fill it with an out of date substance that I no longer use.!!!

Go figure??? SOME IMPORTANT STUFF THAT INJUST HAD TO RESOLVE FOR PROPER USE OF MY GIRL FRIEND!!!

Don't underestimate the power of love ❤️
