Are those the pics of pre-cleaning? How much crud was really removed from behind there?

It does look like you took the time to drill out and replace every rivet. It looks like it was well done! A lot of work, I hope the benefit is there.
There was a bunch of junk in there all new rivets. It makes me feel better knowing what it looked like and seemed appropriate to inspect on a complete rebuild.
I can't help myself I was trained by a German trained master Bimmer tech he would have done it.
I purchased the new updated VC also lol!

Not 80 specific but I’m down here in Baja with Canguro Racing (racing a 200 series) waiting to leave the start line tomorrow morning. We have the honor and pleasure of also supporting the JAOS racing team from Japan racing a brand new Lexus LX600. In addition to the CEO of JAOS being here along with their driver Tomonori Noto, the head engineer of Land Cruiser development, Sadoyoshi Koyari is here with us and also Mamoru-San who owns about 30 Toyota dealerships in Japan and has supplied 4 master techs for the JAOS team. Been a great time for cruiser fan-boys like the Canguro team.
Now, tomorrow we race!

Thank you so much!

I've been freaking out because my glass is cracked and I know it was replaced before with cheap materials and I'm sure they scratched the paint causing that rust issue. I've been worried about opening it up to rusty cheesecloth under there.

You're welcome!

And I get the apprehension. When he saw the bubbling and told me the WORST CASE scenario, my heart dropped. I'd already spent just shy of $2k getting an electrical issue squared away with my AC suddenly not working (long story AND post about it), so I was really apprehensive about the "worst case scenario" suddenly being "Yeah, you NEED to do this"...I mean, the gasket had literally jumped from a non issue to a PRIORITY.

If you need to R/R your gasket, don't wait. Just get it to a good shop that KNOWS how to replace the gasket per the FSM...I guess there's awhole thing involved about the adhesive and how to lay it in the groove and then to the gasket AND THEN to the glass that most shops aren't even aware of. If you're going to pull the glass and gasket yourself, get a good wire brush in there and get most of the rust out and then spray it with Rustop or Rustoleum...whcih is what this shop did. And since they work with a lot of 80 series for this specific issue, I'm not too worried about it. Plus, I have a lifetime warranty on the gasket for leaking.

Best,

It’s a no from me, at leaving that location. I think it could look ok applied on the lower body cladding though.
Might look ok on the tailgate, depending on rig color...but still, it's just not for me, personally.

Started a few projects:

My daughter is almost 14 and she is inheriting the 80 series. She is super excited to work on the truck and learn, so we started tearing everything down for a knuckle rebuild. 3 of the 6 small bolts broke off. Just ordered 2 new Toyota knuckles. Have a rebuild kit from Kurt at Cruiser Outfitters.

She has been awesome. Every time I start to do something, she asks questions and then asks if she can do it. It's been the easiest axle rebuild so far, as I haven't had to do anything but walk her through some stuff.

While waiting on the new knuckles to arrive, we knocked out a few other small projects: New PCV valve and grommet, new hoses, new accelerator cable and new seat gears. She has done all the work herself thus far. It's been a lot of fun!

My mother-in-law asked her what she wanted for Christmas, and my daughter told her she wanted truck parts :)

She replaced the entire accelerator cable by herself. I was very thankful, because I can no longer contort my body...

  1. Removed the winch for maintenance.
  2. Removed the front support beam and tried to sort the extremly warped inside of the engine bay.
  3. Re-routed cables a bit and cleaned up.
  4. Cut a metal piece for the ac radiator as only one was preset. Pretty happy with result, its my first time think i made her happy ....
  5. I let my son clean the plastic battery boxes. They came out dirtier after he used the high pressure wash to play with them in mud.
  6. Bolted down just about everything, the car is too warped and will need to change the support, so just made sure nothing is loose.
  7. Vodoo cursed every one responsible for this cluster frack of work.
  8. I will have to order new parts for components to fit properly, these parts are too far gone.
It got too dark so i couldnt take the after pictures. That and my back was killing me

I cleaned my IAC and did a few readings on my VAF and the one on the LC was reading different on the THA - E2 pins then one off the LC was reading 2.3K Ohms the one on the LC was reading 1.3K Ohms. I am assuming the difference was due to the temperature of the two, basically room temp over previously driven residual heat from being driven for awhile today.

On the VS - E2 pins both measured within speaks.

I moved onto the O2 sensors and the FSM called for 5 - 6.5 Ohms, mine read 13 and 13.5 Ohms. So I have some new 02 sensors on order along with a new coolant temp sensor and intake hose.

Hopefully these repairs will help me pass emissions and I can continue to modify the LC to where I would like it. But got to toss money at getting it running correct first.
